I woke up and smiled. I started a new job at the pet shelter today. I was so excited to work with all the animals today. I quickly got dressed and ate a small snack while jogging to the shelter. I got inside and clocked in, and went to start cleaning out some cages. I walked into my area of dogs to see a boy wearing a volunteer shirt standing by a certain cage. I looked at the dog he was eyeing and sighed. (Favorite breed) was a perfect kind of dog. Obviously this boy thought so too. We introduced ourselves and Mikey and I got to work. We cleaned the cages, groomed the dogs that needed it, and fed and watered them.
Mikey and I had lots of fun taking care of the dogs, and we also played with some of them during our breaks. He was only supposed to work for two hours, but he stayed my entire shift because the manager said he could. At the end of the day, we went to a local cafe and had a few coffee's and talked for a while. He told me how he volunteered there every Tuesday and Thursday and he was okay with staying my whole shift both days if I worked with him on those days. I told him I worked both those days and our friendship only got stronger the next few months.
*One And A Half Years Later*
Mikey and I have been dating for a year now. I had the day off today, but he was at work. We both now worked full time at the pet shelter, and had lots of days together. I had just set the table for dinner when Mikey walked in with a box. He gave me the box and told me it couldn't wait until after dinner. I opened the box to see a black German shepherd puppy.

We named her Rowan and Mikey put a red collar on her. I looked at the collar and noticed a paper on it. I looked at the paper and it said, "Will you marry me?" I stood up and kissed him. We got married the next winter.
