"Now repeat after me" my magical teacher said as we were in the gardens of the castle. I had been there as long as I  could remember, I hated it here, the teachers wouldn't let me go outside unless I was with them. I was never allowed to ask about my mom and more importantly, i was to never ever ask about my mate. The teachers believed that they could skip out on that part of the prophecy and just make me be the red queen once I turned 18

"I am Darcey Ivory Russell, I am to be the red queen and I don't believe in mates" she said slowly and loudly. I rolled my eyes as we went through this every time I either asked or mentioned my mate. In the prophecy I had been given a description of him, which before the 'teachers' had hid it from me, I had written down in my little notebook that my mother had left with my cot when I was born, I had fished it out of the trash a few years back and hidden it from then on. Well unlucky for me, one of them had seen me read it one of the days when I thought they weren't around so they had found out that I kept the information about my mate

"I am Darcey Ivory Russell, I am to be the red queen" I had started and I really didn't want to read the next bit but I gulped and knew I would get a slap if I didn't do it

"And I don't believe in mates" I whispered but the teacher didn't look impressed

"Louder child!" She shouted as she grabbed my chin to make me look at her. I started to get angry, making my hair slowly turn red which made the teacher have a stern look

"And I don't believe in mates" I shouted in her face so then she let go of my face, taking something out of her pocket. The watch...

The watch was what they put on me when they wanted to control the limits of my powers. Even though I have tried to take it off many times, the only person who can take it off except the teachers is that of the person I trust most which at this point in my life is no one, not even myself. The teacher put the watch on my wrist and it started to drain my powers slightly as I took a deep breath. She then clapped her hands together

"Come on child, let's go inside" she called out walking inside. I followed behind her, looking out into the woods, thinking about just running away right now but I know I can't at this moment, tonight was going to be the night that I leave as I couldn't do all this anymore. I wanted to learn on my own. I wanted a loving family. I wanted my mate but I couldn't have any of that while I was here. The teacher took me back to my room and shut the door, locking it behind her. I didn't move until I heard all 11 doors shut and lock after mine and then I got into action. I opened my wardrobe which had my bag backed with all my outfits which I had dyed previous days before so they didn't notice because I didn't know where I would end up. I know there was a town right next to the forest that I was going to try and get to first because the teachers didn't dare go there as they were more old fashioned. I was only 10 but life couldn't get any worse than this so I'd rather survive on my own then stay here. I walked up to the door, even though I had the watch on, I could still pick the locks. I did that but instead of creeping out the door, I walked over to the main office because I knew that was where the crown, the books and my notebooks were. I knew that if they couldn't find me then they would groom a poor other witch to be the red queen and I wouldn't have that for another child but without the crown, they couldn't do anything. I needed the books to learn everything on my own the best I could and I needed my notebook for if I found my mate. I crept in and froze for a moment, the head mistress who I never saw was asleep at her desk, why wasn't she in bed? I heard the door shut I started to panic but I knew I needed to get those things so I lifted my hand and all 3 things appeared in my hand. I smiled, happy that it didn't go wrong. I ran out the room, holding everything towards my chest, I hadn't put on my shoes yet as it would be quieter. I got outside and put all my things in my backpack and took my shoes out, slipping them on. I adjusted my cap on my head, getting into a sprint stance, I know as soon as I pass the boarder, the alarm was going to go off so I was going to have to be quick to make sure I got away. I counted to three slightly in my head and then sprinted. As correctly predicted the alarm went off as soon as I crossed the line and all the lights turned on quicker then I predicted. I started to panic as I ran through the forest panting as I didn't want them to catch me until I heard a twig snap and I turned around to see Marcus, the security guard of the castle

"now now little girl, it's time to come back home" he said as he put out his hand but I shook my head

"Marcus just let me go, I hate it there, I just need to be free" I explained but he slyly smiled at me, walking forward as I backed up, turning to run but he grabbed my back, picking me up as I screamed and shouted in frustration but Marcus only moved 10 steps until we heard a voice

"May I ask what you are doing with that girl" a person called so Marcus turned around so I couldn't see who was talking

"Taking her home, where she belongs, what's it to you werewolf?" He asked and I froze slightly a wolf? But then Marcus placed me down so I turned around to see a adult male wolf and 3 children wolves this might actually be my saviour they all looked at me as Marcus roughly held my arm. The 3 wolf children looked around my age

"Well she looks like she doesn't want to go with you" the eldest looking of the children wolves which was a girl, she gave me a small smile which I returned

"She does, she just stayed out too late didn't you kid?" Marcus asked while looking at me but I shook my head and the female wolf held out her hand

"See? She doesn't want to go with you" she explained but Marcus had enough by that point and was stepping towards them, a green mist coming from their hands. The wolves looked slightly scared whereas my eyes widened

"No marcus I'll go back just don't hurt them" I shouted but he didn't look at me and continued to step toward them as they all growled at him. I had to do something so I smashed my watch against a tree so it broke and lifted up my hands towards Marcus and hit him with a blast. It just made him more mad as he turned around to me

"You little-" he started but he fell down like a brick and the female kid was stood behind him, having punched him which just made him crumble. They all looked at me and I was about to say something but then we saw flash lights go around. I looked at them

"Thank you now I really need to go before I'm in more trouble" I said and the adult wolf nodded while looking at me

"Of course be safe little one" he said and I nodded as they ran one way and I ran in the other. I managed to make it to the edge of town where I saw a sign that said seabrook and I started to run towards the town, not wanting to get into anymore trouble tonight
