My Crush's Roommate

Chapter 3

Song throughout the plane ride:

It was 2:00 at night by the time I got to California.

I got to the main floor of the dorm building and came over to the checkout desk.

"Uh, excuse me-"

I startled the snoozing woman awake. "Oh! You scared me... how may I help you?"

"Dorm room please. I'm Justin Beckett,"

She logs onto her computer and nods. "Yep. You're in the system. Room 306 with a girl... Heidi..."

She hands me the key. "Thank you," I say.

I head upstairs to the third floor.

Aha! Room 306! I unlock the door with my key and head inside.

There, I saw a girl with light toffee hair. Her eyes were staring down at her phone.

"Uh..."

She held up her finger as a motion to wait.

When she got done, she looks up at me.

Black eyeliner was smudged a little underneath her light blue eyes.

"...Heidi, right?"

She smiles. "In the flesh. You must be Justin," I nod.

"Why so late?" Heidi asks, curiously.

"Well... Arizona is a long ways from California,"

She widens her eyes. "You're from Arizona?" I nod again. "I heard it's hot as hell there,"

I shrug. "Well... we have good winters,"

"Thank god,"

She clicked her phone off. "That was my boyfriend. He was watching an XXX movie. He was telling me if everything would be fiction,"

Heidi leans in closer. "But believe me... it's real,"

I nod slowly. "Okay well... I should be heading to bed right now. It's a school night after all,"

She nods. "I understand. Goodnight Justin!"

"Same to you,"

I shut off my lamplight and drifted off to sleep.

Tomorrow will be a better day...
