This chapter is dedicated to @eeaston16 and all the efforts she made to get me to write another chapter. So..... Pretty much all I have to say. Here's Chapter 5 Enjoy!
Disclaimer- I do not own Divergent today. I wont own Divergent tommorrow. And guess what, in 20 years I STILL WONT OWN DIVERGENT!
Tris POV
Christina and I hop off the train right as it reaches the Amity Choosing Center. We sneak in the back door as we hear the last name being called. I flash a smile at Chris as the rest of the Dauntless start yelling and stomping their feet.
Christina and I push open the front doors and start running. Soon enough the rest of Dauntless file in behind us as we make our way to the tracks.
When we reach the railroad tracks, we climb up the track posts until everyone is standing on the platform. The transfers stand around, breathing heavily as the train comes around the corner.
"If you don't want to be factionless, I suggest you jump!" I yell over the sound of the roaring train.
As the first car passes, Christina and I jump, landing effortlessly in the car. We watch as the dauntless-borns and their families hop easily into the car, until only the transfers are left.
One by one, each transfer hops onto the train. Most stumble or fall in until only a tall candor boy is left.
He starts running with the train until he's running along with our car. As the platform reaches an end, the lanky boy jumps, clutching onto the train as he hangs from the side.
Christina and I reach out to grab his hand, pulling him into the car.
"Well, hello there," he says smoothly, leaning against the wall as he stares back and forth between Christina and I.
"I knew there was a reason I joined Dauntless," he adds quite cockily, crossing his arms against his chest.
"Well, I'm taken," Christina says pointing to her stomach. "And as for her, I would stay away. She can kick your ass in a matter of seconds."
"Hey, she can kick my ass anyday," he says, eyeing me up and down again.
"Go away, lover boy," I say shaking my head.
"Fine then!" He says coolly, putting his hands up in surrender as he makes his way over to the other initiates.
"Four is soooo gonna kick his ass!" Christina says, giggling.
"Yeah, I know," I say, joining in the laughter.
We stand around, chit-chatting with the other dauntless and observing the initiates until the train gets close to the compound. As we get closer to the roof, Christina looks at me, a gleam in her eye. Without warning, Christina and I jump, landing gracefully.
We watch as one by one everyone jumps off the train and onto the roof, some landing easier than others. But atleast everyone made it this year.
"Listen up!" Christina yells, pacing back and forth along the edge of the roof. We agreed that Christina could make this announcement so that Tobias and I could introduce our "names" together.
"I am Christina, one of the trainers of your new faction. Below us is the entrance to Dauntless. If you can't find the guts to jump off this roof, then maybe you don't belong here!" Christina yells before continuing with a smirk, "As always, our initiates have the privelege of jumping first."
"You want us to jump off of a building? Are you insane?" A short candor asks, her voice slightly shaking.
"I'm pretty sure that's what I said. And no, I'm not insane, I'm Dauntless. I would suggest you have a little more respectcfor your fellow Dauntless members, if you plan to stay here," Christina snaps, crossing her arms.
"Is there like, water at the bottom, or something? " an erudite boy mutters reluctantly.
"I guess you'll have to see," Christina responds with an imitating grin.
"Who's first?" Christina yells, causing some initiates to jump.
A pretty candor girl steps up, walking cockily to the edge of the roof. Though she walks like it's just another Tuesday, I can see the fear hinting behind her eyes. And though she would never admit it, I know it's there.
She turns away from the other initiates, closing her eyes. In one swift movement, she jumps off the roof and into the net. Dead silence follows her all the way down and noone mutters a word.
"Who's next?" I yell, breaking the silence.
Once everyone else is off the roof, Christina jumps, yelling as she flies through the air until she lands in the net with a thud.
I close my eyes, taking a deep breath in before stepping off the roof and into the air.
I feel the wind blowing through my hair as gravity pulls me toward the net. I land with a thud, the rope entangling me.
I slowly pry my eyes open, only to find myself looking into the beautiful blue eyes of the man I love. (Oh how I would love to end the chapter there, but for your sake, I will continue :)
Tobias POV
I wait patiently at the bottom of the net, listening to Christina's voice echoing through the hole in the roof. As her speech comes to a close, I brace myself, waiting for the first initiate to fall as the rest of Dauntless sinks back into the shadows.
I see a silent flash of black and white fall through the sky until it lands in the net. As I reach out my hand, a blond candor grabs it, pulling herself off the net. Once she is stable, I let go of her hand.
"Well, hello there," she says, eyeing me up and down as she runs her fingers through her hair. I brush off her comment, silently rolling my eyes.
"Name?" I ask, lacing my arms across my chest, clearly annoyed.
"Kayley," she snaps, most likely pissed that I rejected her.
"Make the announcement, Four," Uriah says somewhat solemnly.
"First jumper, Kayley!" I yell, turning back to the crowd in the shadows.
The crowd emerges from the shadows, whooping and hollering like I knew they would, welcoming the new member into the Dauntless family. That's one thing I love about Dauntless; they are always welcoming.
I help Kayley out of the way as a flash of blue comes hurling towards the net. Each of the initiates make their way down until I know only Tris is left. I wait patiently until I see her thin body come through the roof and land in the net.
I walk over to the net to "help her up", knowing it wont look suspicious to the initiates. After all, I helped them up too right? I stand over the net and wait for Tris to open her eyes. After a couple of seconds, they slowly flutter open.
"Hey there, beautiful, " I say, whispering low enough where only she can hear me.
"Hey there, sexy," she says, leaning up to whisper in my ear. I chuckle lightly, helping her out of the net and onto solid ground, even though I know she doesn't need my help.
"I REALLY wanna kiss you right now," I say, intertwining our hands where noone can see.
"Well, I guess you'll just have to wait. We have initiates to tend to," she says, before walking away towards the initiates, a grin on both of our faces.
Ta da! Soooooo, I guess that's it. I can't think of anything right now. My brain isn't functioning right. So, I guess, that's it. Onward we go ---->
