BREATHING PAST HIS EMOTIONS, STEVE ROGERS STARED OUT THE LARGE, CRYSTALLINE WINDOW OF THEIR BORROWED WAKANDAN QUINJET. He was dressed in a black stealth suit that Shuri made for him. There was a silvery blue trim around the collar and wrists where his signature brown, leather gloves meet the fabric. While the rest of the suit is black, hints of metallic grey would shine through the fabric because of interwoven tear resistant threading. Over his chest, there is a Wakandan warrior grade bulletproof vest in a matching color to the suit.

It felt strange to Steve that he wasn't wearing his Captain America suit. Having represented his country of origin so long, it felt out of place to not have that part of himself represented. Although, ever since he went on the run for saving Bucky and ignoring the accords, Steve truly can't go back to the United States.

Not to mention, every time he looked at the suit, he is reminded of Tony. The brilliant inventor designed his suit and implement safely measures that would protect himself and the team. Instead, Steve used the suit that Tony designed to attack him. That alone made Steve feel incessantly guilty.

Some of Tony's dried blood is even stuck on the suit from the effects of their high-stake fight in Siberia.

Steve still remembers the way that Tony looked at him when he pulled the helmet off of the brunette's head. It was pure, unadulterated fear. The brilliant engineer's face was shattered with terror and he even raised his arms over his face in a last-ditch effort to avoid Steve's strike with his shield.

When Steve raised his vibranium shield over his head, he truly did think about thrusting it into Tony's face. And perhaps it was the fact that Tony believed he would actually do so is what pulled Steve out of his fighting trance. The adrenaline and cortisol stopped flowing as strong through his advanced blood vessels and the sanity returned. Steve, the man who wouldn't give up a fight, thrusted his shield into Tony's arc reactor.

The fact that Steve even allowed that thought to cross his mind is what caused him to drop the shield. My father made that shield. You don't deserve it. Howard. Tony's father. They were friends during the war. Is this how Steve repays him for all that the inventor did for him? Murder his son?

Steve moved as if he were a ghost. His thoughts were so far away from the present that he didn't even comprehend the clattering sound the shield made when it hit the ground. The blonde felt nothing and yet...somehow everything as he strung Bucky's living arm around his neck and led him away.

Tony didn't move from his spot on the ground. He couldn't. His suit was officially offline and the inventor was immobile due to his injuries and shock. Steve knew he wouldn't freeze as long as Tony stayed in that suit, however, the super soldier also didn't possess the strength to stay and help.
