Budapest, Hungary" you start that young? I did. "
" she's only six. "
THE TOXIC SMELL OF SMOKE BURNED NATASHA ROMANOFF'S SENSITIVE NOSE AND CAUSED HER EMERALD EYES TO WATER. Her ears were ringing from the sound of the smoke bomb and blood pumping painfully fast through her achy head.
Natasha's body was pressed up against the side of the kitchen wall and it was all she could do to breathe past the nausea swelling within her. Her heart was racing exponentially and despite the knowledge of her Red Room days, the woman could sense that she was starting to panic.
Her head whipped around at the sound of Yelena wincing. The blonde jolted forward from the wall of protection and gripped the small collection of glowing red vials, stuffing them in her blazer. They were so terribly screwed.
Natasha managed a small nod to her younger sister once they briefly made eye contact. It was enough for Yelena to feel confident in her decision as she turned the dials on the living room light panels. One by one, the fixtures started to explode with a deafening pop and fizzled out into nothingness.
The two widows ran out from their hiding spots, straight for their adversaries which turned out to be fellow widows. Natasha side steps past one young agent, using her momentum in order to disarm the agent. The sniper gun fell to the floor in a clatter and once the young widow attempted to drop forward to reach for it, Natasha kneed the girl in the stomach - and then landed a punch to the head.
Quickly, all of those widows were silenced and lain sprawled all over the floor of the apartment they were attempting to apprehend. Natasha and Yelena didn't have the time or mental health capacity to feel remorse for them in that situation.
The duo scrambled for the balcony only to realize that they were being pelted with gunfire from all directions. Natasha covered her head with her hands and curled inward, her right hand gently grazing her stomach as she threw her back against the cement wall adjacent to her.
Yelena was beside her and vulnerable against the 3 widows starting to shoot from the open floor below. Then, the young blonde pulled a grenade out of her pocket, ripped out the tie, and threw the explosive device near their attackers. The grenade exploded with a boom and light engulfed the space.
"Where are we trying to get?" Natasha called out breathlessly to her sister over the ruckus. Tears were flooding unwilling in her eyes from the smoke and her stomach was still smarting from the huge bruise. She could blame her tears on the pain.
Still, Natasha didn't allow her condition to faze her and was lightning quick to follow Yelena up the spiral staircase. Gun fire continued to strike them from all sides and the sisters dodged and ducked as they ran to avoid being struck.
