Jeez -- I'm late, I thought to myself while rushing downstairs as I checked my watch. My mom was very strict and she served diner at sharp 8 PM and it was already 8.05 PM.

"Sweetheart, atleast have an apple. You haven't eaten anything since morning." I saw my dad pleading to mom, as she hadn't eaten since their return from Italy.

"No, thank you." She was really upset as the deal hadn't been cracked resulting in a loss of $1,000,000. "What will happen to the Animal Welfare Organization I was about to start?" She continued, as I sensed a pinch of irritability in her tone.

Currently, she was successfully running a Charitable Oraganization in the town and for adding a cherry on the cake, my dad was one of the most recognized and prosperous businessman in Elmwood. Hence, I was having a hard time understanding the fact that my mother was disturbed by such a meagre loss.

"C'mon mom, you're still upset? It was just one deal. No big deal, right?" I said jumping in the conversation grining, being proud of the pun I just used to lower the rising tension in the room.

"Kevin!" Mom glared, clearly irritated by my sense of humor.

"Okay, I'm sorry." I replied apologetically.

"Go to your room Kevin, your dad and I will sort this out."

"But it's dinner time mom. We're supposed to be at the dining table altogether at this hour, remember?" I said raising my eybrows as mom forgot to set the table which as a matter of fact hasn't happened in a hundred years! Okay, that may be a little exaggerated but my mom had always been a strict mother and I can as well refer to her as a quaint.

"Kev, go and buy yourself dinner at a good restaurant, the cook's on a leave and I don't think your mom is in a condition to cook tonight. And take Shane along with you." He said handing me two bills of hundred dollars each.

"Thanks dad." I replied with a true gratitude.

"Enjoy, son!" He smiled and I returned his gesture. My dad wasn't only the topmost businessman, but he also had the qualities to star in the list of coolest fathers ever. I'd not seen him tensed or unhappy in my entire teenage years, he had always supported me and given me much more freedom than a normal 15 year old gets.

I walked a few metres and froze at the sight, not believing what I just saw. Samara was sitting at the porch of her house and as she was looking the opposite direction, so she didn't spot me looking this time. Phew!

"You live here?" I asked approaching her hesitantly. But my hesitation obviously preceded my curiosity making my lips automatically move.

"No, I'm here to rob. What do you think?" She replied with sheer sarcasm in her tone.

Gosh! Why did you even start a conversation with her? Are you insane Kevin Rockfield? Are you desperate to be insulted again? My mind bustled me with questions like a cop, but there was something about this girl that made me ignore my mind.

"Why do you hate me so much?"

"I don't hate you, I just don't like you, or the way you look." I rolled my eyes noting the sarcasm in her voice.

"You don't like the way I look?" I asked raising an eyebrow.

"Yes, that's what I said." Her answer came out in a low voice as if she was lying. Voila! She found me attractive, why wouldn't she? I was popular amongst the girls in our school with the tag of cute drummer. In short, I was a heartthrob, but I never boosted up myself with male ego which all the popular guys tend to have.

"What are you smiling at Kevin? I said I didn't find you attractive."

"That was rude." I pouted my lips making her chuckle and somehow her laugh reminded me of someone else.

"Was it?"

"Yes it was, Sammy."

"Sorry, what did you just call me?"

"Nothing, I should leave I guess. Night." I muttered clenching my teeth as a mixed feeling of anger and embarrassment took over me.

"Wait, are you okay?" I heard her call after me but I just ran, ignoring her. How could I call her Sammy? This was what I called Samara Halder, my ex. Maybe I was so used to this term that even two months proved to be short to erase this word off my dictionary.

"She lives 3 blocks away from you?" Shane asked stuffing a spoonful of tangy red pasta in his mouth. I had just filled him up with the weird conversation me and Samara had and how my ears turned red after I accidentally called her Sammy.

"Yup."

"Lucky you!" I rolled my eyes hearing his humorous reply.

"Yeah, like I can see her take a shower every morning."

"See, my company has made your jokes pervy too!" I started at him blankly for about 3 seconds before bursting out into laughter making him join me and echoing the walls with our crackling sounds.

"Okay dude. Back to business. This is a rapid fire for you, just answer my questions as soon as you can." I nodded in response.

"Have you moved on from Samara Bitchy Halder?"

The description of her name made me giggle a little before I finally replied, "Yes."

"Do you like Samara Jones?"

"Wait--what?" I asked startled, taken aback by the question he just put up. There was no way I liked Samara, she may have impressed me by her beauty and intelligence, but there wasn't a chance that I had something special for her. For Christ's sake, I didn't even know her that well.

"Just answer the question man!"

"No?" I answered but it came out as more of a question. Wait, why am I not sure? I've always been sure! Hopefully, Shane wouldn't notice that or otherwise he'd be teasing me until I drive crazy.

I couldn't help but notice the confused feelings I had for Samara. Afterall, she was attractive, intellectual, witty, spontaneous and on the other side, she was rude, inconsiderate and most of all she was short tempered. Naah, I can probably date a hyena, but Samara Jones? Never!

"Next question. Do you want another soda?" He asked sounding like a growling singer from a rock band.

"Hell yeah!" I growled back, exhaling a sigh of relief that the Samara topic ended here.
