SOFIA'S POV

I wake up in Ioane's arms the morning of my birthday feeling completely relaxed. My body feels spent, but in a good way. I admire the straightness of his nose and his strong jaw as he sleeps. He looks very different from James, who looks more like a pretty boy. Ioane is a rugged sort of handsome.

Speaking of James, hopefully he doesn't mind that I decided to spend the night at Ioane's hotel room. I just never wanted to go home when I was with Ioane, so I opted to stay here. We were too busy fooling around in bed and catching up together for us to leave. I left James a message letting him know I wouldn't be getting home. Today though, I wanted to leave the hotel room and do something crazy.

Somehow, I'm able to convince Ioane to skydiving in New York City with me. When he wakes up, I give him a quick kiss in bed.

He smiles, rolling over on top of me and pinning me to the bed. Ioane attacks me with kisses, pressing his lips to my eyelids, cheeks, nipples, and bellybutton until my toes curl. Then when I'm all wound up, he rolls on a condom and enters me. We begin rocking into each other until the room turns to steam. When I finally climax, my whole body seems to sparkle while I unwind. "Happy birthday love," Ioane whispers in my ear, right before he comes inside me.

We eat breakfast in bed, feeding each other fruit and pancakes. Then, we go to downtown NYC to go shopping together. I show Ioane all of my favorite stores, and he surprises me by buying me a bracelet from Pandora with Hawaiian themed trinkets.

We're eating lunch together at Estrella's, a small Mexican cafe, when I get a call from James.

"Happy birthday Sofia," he says.

"Thank you," I reply, wiping my face with a napkin.

"Are you still out?"

"Yeah, Ioane and I are eating lunch together now."

"Okay, I just wanted to make sure that you knew I changed our dinner reservations for three. Do you want to meet me at the restaurant?"

"Yeah, that's fine," I tell him.

"Buy a nice birthday outfit of me, okay?" He asks. "Wear it to the dinner."

"I will. Thanks again James," I tell him.

We hang up, and Ioane raises an eyebrow at me. "He didn't get you a present?"

I shake my head. "I don't think so. He wants me to buy myself a gift on his behalf. Do you mind if we go shopping after this?"

"Of course not! Today is your day. We can do whatever you want," he says.

We get out of the café and head downtown to do some damage. I end up buying a bronze sequined mini dress with a cowl neckline. It exposes a decent amount of my boobs and legs, and it also makes me look like I have a nice tan. If the way Ioane is looking at me is anything to go by, I've definitely picked a winner.

After we go shopping, we drive to the tandem skydiving center. Upon arriving, we check in and begin a short class about skydiving. They show us a video and have us fill out some important paperwork. Then we're paired with our instructor to go over our skydive.

I feel butterflies in the pit of my stomach as we ascend into the air, and Ioane holds me hand. It isn't long before our instructors are prompting us to jump together, and soon we're soaring above the New York City Skyline.

JAMES' POV

I get to dinner first and take my seat at our table, feeling slightly pissed that it's not just me and Sofia. And the more I think about it, the more pissed I am that I didn't get to wake up next to her on her birthday. I can't believe she spent the night with Ioane.

Both of them arrive ten minutes late, but I can forgive Sofia for it because she looks stunning. She's wearing a tiny dress that hugs the swell of her ass and flashes her heavy breasts. Her skin looks so smooth. I can see the hickey I left on her the other day, and it makes me smirk.

"James!" She says, throwing her arms around me. I get up to hug her, taking in the scent of her rich Chanel perfume.

"I missed you," I tell her honestly, catching both her and myself off guard.

She looks at me with wide eyes, surprise evident on her face. "I missed you too."

I take the opportunity to kiss her briefly, reveling in the feel of her pillowy lips against mine. When I pull back, I notice the way Ioane's jaw clenches, and I smirk to myself. Good. The fucker better learn his place.

We take a seat, and Sofia orders Scottish salmon, I order a New York strip, and the fucker orders himself some wood-fired shrimp tikka. As we settle in, I ask those two what they did today. Sofia looks at me nervously, which caused me to narrow my eyes at her. "What?" I ask.

"Don't be mad," she says. I sigh. Every time she tells me not to get upset, I inevitably get pissed off.

"What is it? What did you do?" I ask her.

"Remember it's my birthday, and you're not allowed to get mad," she says. I nod my head, prodding her along.

"We went skydiving," Ioane says with a grin.

My jaw drops.

"You two went skydiving? Where?"

"Above the New York City skyline," Sofia says. "It was a once in a lifetime experience."

I open my mouth to ask her what the hell she was thinking, throwing herself out of a plane like that. Does she have a death wish? First shark diving, and now sky diving? She was going to give me a heart attack. Then I remind myself it's her birthday, and we're in a quiet, upscale restaurant, so I close my mouth.

"Do you have any pictures?" I ask her.

"Tons!" She starts showing me all of the pictures off her phone, and I find myself getting jealous that I didn't experience this with her. On one hand, sky-diving terrifies me, but on another, I want to be the one she does all these activities with, not him.

Our food arrives, and we start eating together. "So Ioane, tell me about yourself," I say, forcing myself to say the fucker's name.

"Well, I think you've met my daughter Leilani—she's my whole world. I work at the farmer's market back in Hawaii. I'm trying to earn enough money to go back to school. I want to be a nurse," he says.

"Didn't want to be a doctor?" I ask him, thinking that he probably didn't have the intelligence for it.

"I can't be in school for that long," he says. "I need to think about Leilani."

"He's such a sweet dad," Sofia says, looking into Ioane's brown orbs. I refrain from rolling my eyes.

Ioane asks me about how work is going for me, and I keep the details vague. I don't give a shit about him, and I don't care if he gets to know me or not. We're almost done with dinner when Sofia is interrupted with a phone call. She answers it, excusing herself, and I read the expression in her face as she listens to the caller. I notice the way her lip begins to tremble, and suddenly she's crying at the table.

"What is it?" I ask her.

She meets my eyes. "I don't have cancer. It was benign."

Ioane brushes the tears off her face and pulls her in for a deep kiss, and my blood boils. How dare he touch her? When she responds back just as eagerly, I feel like someone's punched my gut. For the first time, it feels like someone is really stealing my wife away from me. And what's worse—I finally realize that I want her to myself. Just her.
