Night falls down upon me hard

Night falls down upon me hard. The only balm to my terror is that I haven't heard alpha moving around below me. That being said, he could be moving around without me noticing, my hearing is not as good as any other wolf so who knows.

That thought sends chill down my spine so I jump up from the bed and move over to the window. I feel more comfortable by the glass, if I shut my eyes I can imagine that I am back at home in my loft. Instead of being in my own personal hell.

Pressing my cheek against the cool glass, I let my thoughts run away with themselves.

I picture myself at Thornfield with Mr Rochester and Bertha where the only thing I would have to be afraid of is not getting to be with the man I love. Jane Eyre was always a character I connected to the most or I hoped I could relate to the most. She went from being an unwanted orphan to being loved so beautiful.

I want that for myself.

Something taps against the glass by my cheek making me startle and let out a little gasp of surprise. I peer into the gloom, calling on my wolf to help me spot the mystery.

Luckily, it seems I don't need to embarrass or strain myself to see what caused the tapping noice because I can hear the voice of Tobias carried through the glass.

"Hey, Imogen, open the window?"

Despite the biting cold, I unlatch the window and throw it open. Tobias throws me a grin as he looks up at me.

"I'm coming up." He whisper shouts playfully making me laugh softly into my prison cell.

"What?" I whisper back, my eyes glancing over to my locked door, checking that Alpha Blake isn't about to burst through with his claws and rage drawn.

I watch as Tobias heads over to the tree which is growing up close by my window, so close that the fingers of the branches tickle at the panes of the glass.

He climbs up the tree as easily as walking along a path, his movements are fluid and graceful. I can't take my eyes off him, I've spent my childhood climbing trees but even I don't climb that casually.

With a spring, Tobias leaps over to the window sill, his claws dig into the wood and he hangs there for a second before throwing his body weight up in a perfect arc. He lands next to me in an easy sitting position.

Teasingly, he throws his imaginary hair over his shoulder with a wink making me smile. Before my mate, I would have at least let out a small laugh but even that action has been controlled and suppressed my whole life.

"Good evening Imogen."

"Why are you doing?" I cast my eyes back over to the door, gnawing my lip anxiously as I picture my mate in a fit of rage hurting me, and Tobias.

"Don't worry, Alpha Blake is out on a trip tonight and he put me in charge of making sure you don't escape, so that's what I'm doing."

"I'm not sure this is exactly what he meant..."
