Every night for the last week Tobias has sat outside my window to make me feel safe. Even when Alpha Blake came back home, he is still watching over me like a watchdog. He makes me feel safe because deep down I know that if Alpha Blake walks into my room to hurt me, Tobias will protect me.Luckily, Alpha Blake has barely even looked at me since he returned home. He doesn't seem to know or care that he's not bringing me food or water, if it wasn't for Tobias I'd be dead.
I'll admit that the silence coming from my mate is unnerving. I don't know what he's planning but I know that my time is ticking before a real punishment emerges... or before I become a rogue.
It's still early evening, the peach coloured sky is studded with grey clouds. Alpha Blake has broken his routine, normally he's downstairs before the dusk falls but today he's still out. Because it's not yet night, I have no Tobias with me and I miss our conversations. They maybe be meaningless at the moment, but I still miss the company.
When the door slams, it breaks me from my thoughts and I move from the windowsill and onto the bed. I don't want to risk Alpha Blake finding out how much I love my window because if he does, he might just take it away to make my life worse.
Then my blood runs cold. I can hear Blake's footsteps and voice downstairs, but I can also hear a woman's laugh, a woman's voice. My wolf whines and I feel the dread descend onto my body like an avalanche.
Once a wolf has found his mate, whether they accept the bond or not, if they have any form of relationship with another wolf it causes the mate agonising, heartbreaking pain. And if they have sex, I've heard it's even worse.
This is another of Blake's punishments because I am a runt.
Whimpering, I hide my head under the pillow Tobias bought in for me and I try to pretend I'm not really here. I squeeze my eyes shut and imagine myself in the forest, running and enjoying the freedom. Initially, I'm running alone but after a few moments it morphs and I'm running alongside Tobias.
This is a stupid and dangerous daydream, I have my mate and it's not Tobias and as soon as his mate arrives he'll forget about me and I'll be left with Blake and his punishments.
"There it is, isn't it pathetic."
I gasp and throw my pillow off my head, exposing my tear stained cheeks and wild red hair to the pair laughing at me in the doorway. I was so engrossed in my thoughts of Tobias that I didn't hear them approaching.
My eyes look over at them, it's Blake and a stunning, striking, statuesque blonde she wolf. If I stood up, she would tower over me and make me look plain.
