"What?" I breathe out in shock, my eyes darting to Tobias' face as I try to scan for any sign of deceit. When I find none I take a deep breath and return my head to Tobias' chest.
"You're my mate, Imogen. Once I realised what this was everything made sense, why you were in so much pain a few nights ago, why that scar on your face has nearly vanished, why I can't bare the thought of you being out of my sight, my wolf whines whenever I think of what happened to you."
"Woah." I gasp, lifting my head up to look at Tobias in the eyes. His eyes are burning with passion and fire, it makes him look so attractive to me that I have to hold myself back from pressing a kiss to his lips. "You really feel a-all that about me?"
"Yes, Immy, I do." Tobias leans forward, his hand cupping my chin as he leads my face closer to his until our breathe is mingling together.
His eyes are darting down to my lips as mine are to his. We both sit frozen for a second, enjoying each other's company and the intimacy sparking around us.
"Can I kiss you Immy?" Tobias murmurs, his voice is hoarse with self restraint and desire, I nod and begin to open my mouth to reply. Before I have a chance to form the words, my lips meet his and we are captured in a deep, consuming kiss.
Tobias' movements are claiming and dominating. I know that Tobias is in control of this kiss, and I love it.
I relax my body against Tobias, my wolf is yipping happily at the contact of our mate. Our mate. I can hardly believe he truly is my mate but the fireworks sparking in my stomach leave me in no doubt that what Tobias told me was the truth.
When my lungs begin to burn with the need for air, I pull away from Tobias and he quickly releases my lips for his.
"Hey baby," Tobias breathes heavily against my forehead as I pant for air, "you ok."
"Trust me, I'm more than ok."
Squealing excitedly, I throw my arms around his neck and enjoy the feeling of my mate wrapping his arms around my body.
I feel a yawn brewing and I quickly try to stifle it. It would be rather embarrassing to yawn loudly right in my mate's ear but it seems that my best efforts to hide the yawn fail in Tobias' keen eyes.
He chuckles and reaches down for Inky, who he hands to me gently. In one hand, I hold the snoring kitten against my chest and with the other I hold onto Tobias' neck.
"You tired, baby?" I nod sleepily against his shoulder and I feel my body being lifted into the air.
"I suppose I did wake you up, introduce you to ice cream and giving you a huge piece of information to deal with."
"You did you me some information, but it's not something to deal with, it's something to enjoy."
"That's good, but you're still tired."
Gently, Tobias carries me up the stairs and pauses outside my door for a moment. Taking a brave step, I shake my head and point to his room.
"Really?"
"Yes." I say firmly, then I hesitate for a second as I realise what my answer might convey to Tobias. "But just to sleep."
As Tobias walks into his room he replies to my addition.
"Imogen," he places me on the edge of the bed and then kneels down so his face is level with mine, "just because you are my mate now doesn't mean anything has to change between us. Things can progress as slowly or as quickly as you feel ready for. I promise you that."
"Thank you." I whisper, leaning forwards to give Tobias another kiss.
As our lips meet I reach behind me and place Inky down on the bed and then use both hands to grab hold of Tobias' cheeks, pulling him deeper against me.
When we part Tobias throws me a huge, freeing smile and I'm sure that my face mirrors his.
As we stare at each other I am so lost in his gaze that I fail to sense that another yawn is on the way. The yawn captures me quickly and before I can stop it I'm yawning in Tobias' face.
"Sleep then, baby?" Tobias says with a smile, it doesn't go unnoticed by me that Tobias has started using a pet name for me and I love it.
"Yes, please." We both laugh together and I am overwhelmed with the feeling of wholeness in my chest. All I know is that when I'm with Tobias, life is better.
Tobias climbs into the bed on his side and I follow quickly after. As I nestle down under the covers Inky yawns and stretches. I watch in amusement as he pads up the bed on unsteady feet, once he reaches our chest he pauses for a moment as if deciding who to sleep closer to.
Eventually it seems that Tobias wins out against me as Inky climbs up onto his chest and curls up.
"This bloody cat." Tobias shakes his head and looks over at me before switching off the lamp by his bed.
"Hey, don't be mean about Inky."
"I'm only joking, if you like him I like him."
"Liar," I mutter playfully as I roll over onto my side and rest my head on Tobias' arm, "but thank you for getting him for me."
Tobias nods and makes a sleepy noise of acknowledgment. With Tobias' warmth and my own happiness enveloping me, I curl up closer against Tobias, close my eyes and let my mind drift off into the darkness of sleep.
