Tobias and I sit next to each other at the dinning table as we enjoy dinner together. Since the visit to the pack, Tobias has established a new beta to take charge for the time being. Tobias is having a cabin slightly away from the pack house built for us because his old house was too cold and I certainly couldn't stay in the alpha's house.
In truth, I am not totally comfortable being anywhere near that pack but I'm being strong for Tobias, and maybe they will prove me wrong.
"Do you like it?" I question as I wind strands of pasta around my fork. Tonight I cooked peppers and pasta for my mate and from the way he's consuming it, I can only assume he likes it.
Tobias looks up at me with sauce splashed around his mouth and pasta stuffed in his mouth. He looks like a deer caught in the headlights.
He grins up at me and wipes the sauce from his chin.
"It's amazing baby, you're cooking forever from now on!" He teases me and praises me, making my heart swell with love.
Once we both finish I clear the plates away and take them to the kitchen. Tobias wanted to help as well but Inky is fast asleep on his lap, so he's stuck there.
When I walk back from the kitchen and past Tobias to head towards me chair again his head suddenly jumps bolt upright. He looks around with wide alarm and it makes me tense.
He slowly lift Inky from his lap and places him on the floor. His actions are terrifying me, but when I go to speak he holds his finger in front of his lips.
"I can hear someone else in the house."
My pulse spikes in terror and fear, my arms instinctively drop to my stomach and they wrap around protectively.
"What?" I whisper gasp as I feel alarm raising in my blood.
"Come here." Tobias' voice is so quiet that I can barely hear him. With my heart pounding, I stand from my chair again and silently walk towards him.
"Holy shit, they're right above us!" Tobias roars and throws his body over mine as we crash to the floor.
We don't hit the floor hard, Tobias cushions my fall with his cradling arms so I'm not even hurt. Finally, I realise why Tobias thinks there is someone in the house and I burst into laughter which makes Tobias look up at me in disbelief.
"What are you doing? Can't you hear them." Tobias looks at me in confusion and fear so I bravely reach up to Tobias' head and push him down until his head is hovering over my stomach.
"What are you do-"
Tobias stops mid sentence and suddenly presses his ear onto my stomach. I know that he can hear the tiny heartbeat thudding in my belly. I have been waiting days for the heartbeat to finally appear. I'm about 3 weeks gone now but because we are wolves the pregnancy is accelerated and heightened.
After a few seconds, he raises his head from my stomach with tears in his eyes.
"Are you... are we?"
"Yes." I nod my head and bite my lip as the tears happily sneak down my cheeks. "Yes, yes! We are!"
Tobias grins so wide I'm convinced his cheeks are going to tear and he is on his feet before I can blink. He bends down and helps me to my feet but instead of leaving me standing, he hauls me up against his chest and begins to spin me around and around.
Laughing together, I wrap my arms around his neck and cover his face in kiss after kiss. When I start to feel dizzy, I tap Tobias on the shoulder and he gently places me back on my feet.
"The first time you kissed me was like that." Tobias mentions as he holds my hands in his and looks down at me with more love than a woman could ever deserve.
"I remember." I murmur as I look back up at my mate with a panting chest from all the excitement. "I can't believe you thought we had an intruder!" I finally splutter out in a laugh, I can't believe how adorable and ridiculous my mate is.
"Hey, shut up you." Tobias tells me, I can tell by his smile and tone that he is playing with me and reacting to my teasing but the words make me think of all the times my father or brothers told me to shut up.
Feeling emotional, I burst into tears and look up at Tobias with a trembling lip. Tobias pulls me into his arms and murmurs apologies in my hair and sweet comforting words but I still can't get my emotions in check. Gently, Tobias pulls me over to the sofa and lifts me onto his lap.
I am straddling his hips with my legs at either side so I am looking down at him with tears pooling in my eyes.
"I'm sorr-ry." I choke out as Tobias winds his arms around and mutters even more soft words into the air.
"Shh baby, you don't need to apologise for anything. You feel every emotion you have and let me be part of it."
His sweet words and the fervent truth behind them just make me cry harder because I love him so much and I'm so lucky to have him. Even though the tears are happy now Tobias is still unsure and panicky.
"Can I show you something?" He asks as he wipes the tears from beneath my eyes and kisses at my cheeks.
"Yes, yes I'm ok. I'm ok now."
"You're ok?" He double checks with a lilting laugh in his tone as he worriedly scans my face for anymore tears.
"Yes, I promise no more tears."
Tobias finally relaxes and lifts me up from the sofa. As I expected, Tobias flat out refuses to put me down and carries me up the stairs.
"This finally explains why my wolf has been going nuts about me leaving you for even a second." He laughs as he reaches the top of the stairs and kisses my forehead. "I thought that he just thought that I was a terrible mate!"
I laugh as Tobias sets me down on my feet and hovers behind me. As we walk, Tobias slips his hands down to rest on the slight bump to my stomach. It's hard to walk like this, with my great hulking mate looming over me but I don't care. I like the feeling of his hands on our pup.
"Are you ready?" Tobias says softly as he leans over me even more and turns the handle of the door we have paused behind. I have never seen this door open so I'm seriously intrigued as to what my mate has hiding behind it.
The door swings open and my breath catches in my throat. Hiding behind this door is a nursery, complete with a green painted cot and matching changing table. There are pale green leaves winding over all the woodwork and up the walls.
"Tobias!" I choke out as I take a step into the room. "What? What?" I've been rendered speechless, this room is more than I could ever have dreamed of for my pup. Once again, my mate has made my dreams come true.
By the time I'm turning back around to face Tobias the emotion has beaten me and the tears are freely flowing down my cheeks.
"Hey," Tobias chides as he holds my face in his hands, "you said no more tears."
