Chapter 7: Free Period

Clay POV

Practise lasted longer than we thought, Mr Schlatt wasn't in the greatest mood so ended up taking it out on us by running into our lunch. We sat at the table with Karl eating our lunch, filling him in with how practise was going.

"Its not bad it's just getting used to doing that amount of exercise again, besides were going to end up being busy a lot of the time so what about you?" Nick asks Karl, usually it wasn't a problem as he would just hang out with George.

"Thats alright, I'm trying to make new friends, I spoke to Greg today too" Karl smiles "Whats he like?" I ask, finishing my food "I think he's nice, Im gonna spend the last period with him since we don't have English"

It was nice to hear Karl was making new friends, we really do need to start socialising with others more. After catching up we parted ways, Karl staying in the cafeteria.

"Do you think Mr Schlatt will be in a better mood now?" Alex asks and I shrug "All we can do is hope"

Karl POV

I left the cafeteria and made my way to my locker, I stood next to it as I waited for greg to show up. I ended up sitting on the floor as 15 minutes flew by before he showed up.

"Lets go sit outside, we can go watch the others from the bleachers and you can tell me what took you so long" I get up and he nods, following me outside. I couldn't help but notice a limp in his walk, he looked uncomfortable but I didn't want to push anything.

We sat down on the benches and I pulled my notes book from my bag, passing him a spare pen and giving him the book, looking over to see if I could see my friends.

G: Im so sorry I left you waiting, I got caught up with a teacher and I couldn't exactly say anything to get away

K: Its fine your here now, lets talk some more, you don't have to answer if you don't want to but why do you cover your face, like how do you even see anything

G: Oh I just hate showing my face I guess, not too much of a reason

K: Do you think you'll ever show your face here?

G: No, I dont think ill be here for long

K: What do you mean? Are you moving again?

G: No its just this school was like a trial for me I guess

K: Why don't you want to stay?

I look up to see Greg being called over by Mr Schlatt, he grabs the book quickly writing something before closing it, handing It back to me and making his way over awkwardly.

Clay, Alex and Nick had spotted me and waved over, I smiled and returned the gesture, putting the book in my bag forgetting to check what he wrote.

Nick POV

Coach was making us train harder than ever, really trying to put our skills up to the test. Knowing Karl was watching made us all feel a lot better, we hardly got to see him all day and we knew we would all want to go straight home after.

Karl seemed to be getting along really well with Greg, it was good to see him make new connections. Hopefully we will all get to meet him at some point.

Once practise was finally over we headed to the showers, having a quick rinse before changing clothes. We met up with Karl outside who immediately gave me a hug, followed by him giving Alex and Clay one.

"You guys can go rest up, we can talk another time you've had a hard day" Clay smiled at Karl and took Alex with him to drop him off. I started walking my direction home as Karl walked with me.

"Did you have fun at practise? It wasn't too awkward being with Zak was it?" he asked, I hadn't even thought about it, I'd almost forgot how complicated things were. "No, it was fine, just tiring, how was your day?"

"It was good, I just missed you guys..it felt weird not having George or even Darryl with me while you were at practise" he faintly smiled. "Hey why don't you try talking to him? He wont have Zak to keep him company so you could try and make amends?" I suggest and he shrugs.

"Maybe..the whole situation is just delicate though" As we finally arrive at my house I hug Karl a goodbye, heading inside and not wasting anytime in finding my way into bed.
