Clay POV
I didn't want to leave the station but I knew that it was the right thing to do so George and his mum could have privacy. I couldn't even fully register how George was standing right in front of me but hopefully Karl could give us some answers.
My mum took us back to our place. She allowed the boys to stay as so much had happened in such little time. As soon as she stopped driving she started calling their parents to let them know the news.
Not a word had been said all car ride, although you could practically hear everyones thoughts. We sat in the kitchen, bags on the floor, waiting for someone to break the silence.
No one did. My mum came over once she made the phone calls and sat down, looking at us with a sad face. "George is alive! Aren't you happy?" She says, none of us responding.
"How did you boys find him?" She asks and we all look over to Karl. "Yeah how did you find him?" Nick asks, Karl trying to hid himself further into his hoodie.
"He found me. Came to me for help and so I helped him" He says, shuffling as he spoke, clearly uncomfortable. "How long ago was that?" My mum asks. "Only 2 days"
"Well I spoke to your parents, we're going to keep you off school for the time being. It probably isn't best you go in at the moment. You boys should get some rest" She advises, passing me the air bed and Nick the pump.
We all knew we weren't getting any sleep tonight but took them upstairs anyway. Karl taking his bag up with him.
George POV:
I was getting a headache from all these questions. I was tired and in pain. I managed to give enough information for them to send out a warrant for Schlatt's arrest. I even showed them some proof of bruising and the disgusting hickeys that splotched my neck.
I would never show them what surrounded my thighs. We were sent home with some police following behind our car. They would stay there until they arrested him to make sure I was safe.
I should feel safe right? I'm with my family, my friends, I'm safe now. I just didn't feel like I was. Paranoia and guilt was consuming me but not as much as sleep was
My mum took me up the stairs into my bedroom. It was completely untouched, except it wasn't dusty. It was kept clean but nothing had moved.
I climbed into bed, not bothering to change. She tucked me in and kissed my forehead, leaving my door open but turning the light off.
Sleep overtook my body in seconds.
I woke up, not from any night terrors but to the sunlight peeping from my curtains. I was surprised I was actually able to sleep.
Today I had one goal. Pretend like the last year hadn't happened. I get up from my bed ignoring the usual aches and pains, changing into joggers since jeans would hurt and my old blue hoodie with red and white embroidery.
I only run some water through my hair and look at myself in the mirror. Except from the clear dullness, cuts and bruising I looked much better.
I brush my teeth before leaving my room. I greet my mum with a hug and she cried almost immediately. "Don't cry mum, It's alright" I say trying to comfort her and she wipes her tears.
"Sorry baby, I've just missed seeing you" She hands me a plate of food that I only half eat, not managing to get my appetite back.
"Hey so I got you a doctors appointment for today. They just want to check you for any injuries or broken limbs" She states and I nod. Not exactly what I wanted to do but It would be nice not to be in pain for once.
"Can one of my friends come with me?" I ask and she nods. "Of course, They should all be coming here today. According to Clays mum they've been begging to come see you today" I smile.
Even though I wasn't good in contact with other people, I could handle hugs from them. I was still yet to speak to Clay so I wanted him to be the one to take me to my appointment. I probably missed him the same amount as my mother.
Why did I miss him more than my other friends? I don't know, but we did have a different kind of friendship compared to the others.
"When will I get my phone and stuff back?" I ask "Oh! We have it all here now, It's still in boxes and bags but you can take anything you want from them" She responds right as there's a knock on the door.
I walk over to the few boxes and bags piled to the side. I pick up the first one forgetting about my injured hand and instantly dropping the box. "Fuck" I say, crimson red blood spilling from my hand and I sigh.
I grab a paper towel and dampen it at the sink, cleaning up my hand. I ignore the sting as I pick the box back up and place it on the table, taking the lid off and looking at the contents.
Art supplies, pictures, accessories. I spot my phone and take it out, putting the lid back on and taking it out of the bag it was in. I look up when I hear voices approaching.
I put my phone down and walk over, giving each one a small hug. I look up at Clay "Can we talk quick?" I ask "Sure" he smiles. "We wont be long" I say to the others, leading Clay upstairs.
