Chapter 1: Blood of my Blood
Nataliya and her sister continued through the streets, running through the cars and crowds, getting pushed and shoved. They had no bags with them, luckily, because there were lots of people stealing things violently from others, beating and sometimes killing the original owner. All the many stands that littered the streets were broken and looted, the owners beaten or killed as well. Needless to say the two sisters had to move over more than a few dead or unconscious bodies.
They eventually reached the location their mother told them she worked at, Lilia knew that their mother was a prostitute and didn't work there, but Nataliya had not suffered the insults that Lilia had in school, because Nataliya hadn't gone to school in years. The books she stole taught her better than the teachers did.
Nataliya ran inside and looked about. It was a cafe, no one was there. The place was looted, the chairs and tables were mainly tipped over, cups and plates were shattered on the ground, and all the food was gone(even the coffee beans were ripped from the machines).
Nataliya looked about for a good ten minutes, and just as Lilia was about to force her to leave, gunshots were heard not too far away, screams filled the streets as people began to run. Lilia glanced behind her, seeing a large number of armed soldiers moving towards them, firing into the crowd. Lilia charged into the cafe and yelled to her sister, "HIDE!"
Lilia jumped over a counter on the far wall and Nataliya ran to the bathroom. She was able to climb up and get into an air duct(which was off because there was no power to the building). The screams of people died away after a few minutes as well as the gunshots, obviously the soldiers had continued to chase the people down the street. Just as the two sisters prepared to leave their hiding spots, the sound of large military boots were heard walking on the hardwood floor of the cafe.
There were two soldiers speaking to each other in Belarusian. After a few minutes Nataliya heard her sister scream. In a blindingly stupid move, Nataliya jumped out of her hiding place and charged out of the bathroom. One of the soldiers was gripping Lilia by her hair. Nataliya charged at the man by the other one grabbed her by the stomach before she got close.
He said something in Belarusian before lifting her off her feet.
The other one responded in Belarusian, pulling Lilia forward by her hair and slapping her ass.
the other said something back.
The soldier gripping Lilia dragged her to the kitchen as the soldier holding Nataliya threw her on the ground. She tried to get up but the soldier kicked her in the face, flipping her over and causing her nose and mouth to bleed.
The soldier said something before lifting Nataliya up by the stomach. He placed her on a table, lying on her back. He unzipped her jacket and placed a hand on her breast. She tried to fight back, even screamed, but he just ignored her, she was too weak to move him.
Nataliya heard her sister screaming from the kitchen. It brought tears to Nataliya's eyes.
He said something before he moved both his hand to her legs, one hand on one of her butt cheeks, the other beginning to unbutton her pants. Nataliya didn't even think for the next moment, pure instinct kicked in. She sat up and grabbed the man's knife, it was near his chest. With all her strength, greatly aided by adrenaline, she jabbed the knife into the man's neck. Blood began to spray onto Nataliya's face and chest, it was warm, and tasted surprisingly good when it entered her mouth. The man toppled over without a scream and Nataliya jumped off the table, losing control of her legs and falling to her knees. She quickly regained control when she heard her sister's continued screams.
