Chapter 22: Vengeance
Nataliya awoke to severe pain in her abdomen, but the pain was nothing compared to her heart. She looked around, she was in someone's basement, on a couch, Abbi was sitting in a chair in the room and Dr. Glazkov was looking at some papers. Nataliya was wearing a bra and pants, her abdomen was bandaged.
"She's awake," Abbi said, putting her laptop away.
"Where the fuck am I?" Nataliya inquired, trying to get up to no avail.
"Jason's house," Abbi said.
"What happened?" Nataliya inquired, placing a hand over her eyes.
"You killed Dmitri and Ivan, and created a vacuum of power in the underworld."
"What? I didn't kill Ivan."
"Well he's dead and Natasha has taken control."
"Natasha? Why the hell would Natasha be in charge? How long was I out?"
"You've been asleep for four days. Natasha's a lot smarter than you think. She'll do a lot better than Ivan, that's for sure."
"What about Ashley...?"
"You mean Veronica Trousdale? She's alive and well."
"Veronica Trousdale?"
"Yeah she is a professional grifter. I did a basic background check on her and found everything corroborating a woman named Ashley Thorne, I didn't bother checking further. After she shot you, I looked deeper and found Veronica Trousdale. Whoever created Ashley Thorne was damned good, I'm just better."
"So she played me..."
"I'm sorry..."
"That bitch..."
Nataliya tried to get up before falling back down. Dr. Glazkov walked to her and said, "Calm down, you don't want your wounds to open again."
"What are you doing here?" Nataliya inquired.
"I adored Dmitri, yet I know you wouldn't have done it unless this... Veronica was damned good. After what happened with Eva and Natasha... I just couldn't stay..."
"What happened?"
Dr. Glazkov looked away, seeming depressed. Nataliya turned her gaze to Abbi, who sighed before saying, "Eva... she... she killed herself the night after Dmitri died."
Nataliya's world paused as she looked into Abbi's unfeeling eyes. All her emotions, every terrible thing she had done, they all hit her in that moment. The mother of her child was dead. She was dead and it was Nataliya's fault, Nataliya's stupidity for trusting Ashley... Tears fell down her face, more than she knew she had, she screamed as she continued to cry. Dr. Glazkov left the basement, crying a bit himself.
Nataliya calmed herself down after a long while before returning her gaze back to Abbi, "What... what about Lilia?"
"Natasha has taken her in," she responded.
"She'll be a better mother than me..."
"Do you want to know where Veronica is?"
