Chapter 18: The Bell Tolls Once More
First thing in the morning after breakfast, Nataliya and Eva went into Dmitri's office. He was sitting with a few papers and immediately smiled as they walked in.
"Hello my dears!" he said, "How can I help you?"
"Daddy," Eva said, licking her lips, "I... we... have something to tell you."
"What is it?"
Eva and Nataliya sat down in the two chairs in front of his desk, "Daddy... me and Nataliya... are together."
"Together?"
"Me and Nataliya have been... dating... for the past two years."
"Okay."
"Okay," Eva coughed.
"May I speak with Nataliya for a moment please?"
Eva nodded then walked out. When the door shut Dmitri looked Nataliya in the eyes.
"I have a simple question for you," he said, "Do you love her?"
Nataliya looked back into his eyes. She opened her mouth to speak, but closed it once more, looking to another wall, "No."
"Does she love you?"
"I... I think so..."
"Do you want to continue the relationship?"
"I... yes."
"Are you willing to lie about your love?"
"What?"
"Are you willing to tell her you love her, when you don't?"
"Yes."
"Then go ahead."
"What?"
"She will be happy with you, even if you are not. My daughter's happiness is more important to me than yours."
"I... guess I understand..."
"Then go to her, pretend with her, make her happy."
She nodded before leaving.
"What did he say?" Eva inquired once Nataliya shut the door.
"He's perfectly fine with us," Nataliya said, smiling.
"Yes!" she kissed Nataliya on the lips passionately.
Three and a half years later in mid-summer, the day Nataliya dreaded for the past year occurred, her wedding day. Eva had proposed the summer before, and Nataliya had reluctantly agreed, stalling the actual date as much as she could. They were at Dmitri's Vineyard in Northern Italy.
Nataliya was in her designated changing room, she was fully dressed and ready. She was wearing tight, black, dress pants, and white undershirt, and a black overcoat, as well as a black tie. She had stopped growing two years before, after growing another 6 centimeters, staying at roughly 170 centimeters. Her hair was simply in a ponytail(Natasha tried to get her to style it, but Nataliya refused), but she was wearing make-up for the first time in her life, not a whole lot, but it was still there(she didn't like that either).
