Four months have passed. I have had no contact with Calum at all. I think he got my message.
My cellphone is ringing and I sleepily open my eyes. "Hello?" I say and the person on the other side of the line says, "Hey Sara!"
"Hey Ashton, you're awake early." I say. Ashton is the only one from the band I've been in touch with, but even with him I've not talked much. Even though I know Ashton won't tell anything, I don't want him to know what happened between me and Calum. That's something Calum and I have to solve, but I really don't want that. I still am hurt about that.
Ashton chuckles, and that makes me get out of my thoughts.
"Oh, sorry... I forgot that you're probably not as awake as I am," Ashton says, "But I just wanted to wish you a safe flight, and I'm excited to hang out with you again."I smile, even though he can't see that, and say, "Thanks. I'm flying to Italy in about six hours. How's everything going?"
"I'm doing good, excited for the show we're playing tonight in Rome. And the guys have been good, I guess. Except Calum. He's been acting all moody lately... Luke told me why.""He did?" I ask, finding myself choking up. I have been thinking about Calum a lot lately, and it doesn't hurt any less, even after all the time that has passed.
"I can't believe he did that to you. I mean, if I were him I'd never hurt you. You're such a nice girl you know..."
"Thanks," I try to say, but I feel tears coming up at the thought of Calum. Not only I am hurt, but I am scared too. I'm scared that I'll have to see him again, and I'm scared that I will break down if I have to do that. So, I'm planning to avoid any interaction with him. Just like I've been doing the past months."Are you still there?" I hear Ashton say and I try to cough the lump in my throat away before answering. "Yeah, sorry. I just zoned out, I guess." I try to sound happy and chuckle a little.
"Okay, well, when will we meet? I'm afraid tonight's not going to work out... maybe tomorrow night? If you're not busy, of course, you're with your family and not with me so-""Tomorrow night sounds perfect, Ash." "Okay," he says and I can hear that he's happy, "See you tomorrow then!" "See you later Ashton, and good luck performing tonight. Say hi to the rest of the guys from me."
"Will do," he says, "Bye!"
He hangs up and I smile. Talking to Ashton always makes me feel better and I don't know how he does that. He always smiles and always knows how to talk to people. I wish I could do that. An hour or two later, everything is packed and we are all ready to go.
"Are you going ot meet Ashton today?" my sister asks me and I nod. "Well, not today, but tomorrow night."
"Oh," she says, "And will Calum be there?" she asks me, visibly worried. "I don't want you to get hurt again, you know." "I hope not." I say, trying to convince her, but also myself.
When we've arrived at the airport and went through security, Eva and I decide to go look at the shops together. But we get bored fast, and walk back to our parents pretty soon. The flight isn't long, but I'm more than ready to unpack and lay down on my bed to sleep, but I'm sure that's not going to happen when I walk into the bathroom.
On the mirror, with something that looks like red marker, is written, "Meet Me Tomorrow."
And it's not Ashton's handwriting. It's Calum's.
