Victoria

I ended up finding an old dress that apparently my mother had worn at one point while she was alive. It was a 1950's inspired emerald green dress with off the shoulder sleeves.

I didn't think I would actually agree to a date with August. But, I did. And I also didn't think he would actually kiss me. But, he did. I was shocked that I actually allowed him to. But it was honestly kind of nice.

"Are you sure you want to do this, Tori? You don't have to accept him if you don't want to." My father told me as I came out of my room, carrying a pair of small, black high heels in my hand. They were only about 2 inches tall. Because I could barely walk in regular shoes or flat footed. Much less high heels.

I only shrugged. "I know. But I wanted a mate, dad. And I'm pretty sure I won't get a second chance if I reject him. Not everyone is lucky enough to get another mate after rejecting the first one." I sighed, walking to the stairs and grabbing the guard rail before walking down them. I was always careful with these stairs because of the countless times I fell down them over the last 19 years of life.

"I know, sweetie. But, you know I don't fully trust August. Even if he's alpha." My father started as we got to the bottom of the stairs. "And you know how certain alphas can be. Stubborn, strong headed, possessive, always aggravated, strong, massive-"

"Dad!" I cried, causing him to stop his rant. He wasn't wrong. August was all those things. And then some. But I didn't want to hear it. Not now.

"I get it. August isn't your favorite person. He quite isn't my favorite either. And with him being an alpha, he most certainly wouldn't have been my first choice. But.. But I think the Moon Goddess has a reason as to why she put us together. Even though I can't stand him, I think maybe it's for the better that I got stuck being his mate." I told my dad as I dropped my heels and put them on my feet.

Dad sighed. "I know. I just.. You're my little girl. I'm not ready for you to grow up and have a mate. You're going to leave me one day and have your own kids and your own life." He told me, gently grabbing my upper arms where the dress met, and kissed my forehead. "I'm 19, dad. I was eligible to have a mate at 16 when I started to shift. You should've given me that talk 3 years ago." That made him giggle a bit before there was a knock at the door.

Dad moved to open it and there stood August. Him in all of his 6'3"-ish-ness and in a black tux. His eyes skimmed over my dad and to me and I saw his pupils dilate slightly. "Wow." Was all he could say. "You.. um... Just.."

"You're stuttering, August." I said, walking over to my dad and him. August cleared his throat. "I just meant to say that you look nice." He stated quickly, going back to his tough guy, cocky facade. "And I thought I was meeting you over at your place." I stated. But August just shrugged. "Change of plans, I guess."

August looked over at my father. "Nice to see you again, Mr. Robinson." He said, reaching his hand out to shake my dad's hand. "Just call me Steve when we're not in meetings." My dad told him before shaking August's hand once before letting go.

August just nodded quickly before looking down at me and extending his elbow to me. I looped my hand and wrist through it and grabbed his forearm with my other hand before I looked over at my dad. "I guess I'll be home in a few hours." I told him. He just gave me a small smile before looking back at August. "1 am, buddy. I get you're alpha and all but this is my daughter, we're talking about here. I will not hesitate to fight you."

August nervously laughed before I glared at my dad. Who just gave me an innocent smile and shrugged. "Don't let this get to your head, August, but I'm actually sorry for that." I groaned, before trying to pull him from the door. "I'll see you later dad. Love you." I called before dad closed the door behind August and I.
