August's POV
It was 4 in the afternoon, about 5 hours since I brought Victoria to the pack hospital, and she had already given birth to the twins. She was fast asleep in the hospital bed while her father was holding Emmalynne and Declan was fast asleep in a bassinet that was provided by the hospital.
Declan was the first one to be born. He looked just like Victoria. With bright auburn stubble on his head, medium tan skin, and hazel colored eyes. His facial features, as well, were similar to Victoria. While Emmalynne looked like a mix of us. She had medium brown stubble on her little head, lighter skin, and blue eyes. Victoria says she looked just like me, but I saw a mix of both of us in her. And she was also the bigger baby. Weighing almost 9 pounds and about 20 and 1/2 inches long while Declan was 7.5 pounds and 17 inches long.
Emmalynne took an immediate liking to Victoria's father. I don't know what it was, but I guess she loved her grandfather already. And he was also head over heals for her.
After she fell asleep in his arms, though, he stood up and put her in a bassinet as well and turned to me. "As much as I hate pulling you away from your new family, I think this is the best time to go talk to that boy." He told me in a hushed tone, being careful not to wake the 3 sleeping people in the room.
I wasn't ready for that. I know it's been a couple days since the attack, and it was time, I just didn't think I was able to control myself in order to last long enough to talk to the damn kid. Because, even though I was the one who got hurt, he could have hurt Victoria. That was NOT okay and did not settle too well with me. That, alone, made my blood boil.
I shook my head no, not wanting to leave my mate and children. "I don't think I have the strength to do that, right now." I said, looking over to Victoria, who was fast asleep, curled into a ball. "The moment I step within any kind of facility of that damned boy, I might just kill him without questioning him."
"You know you can't do that." He told me, sitting back down in the chair he was just in. "Because, you need to know why he broke into your house and hurt you."
I didn't say anything for a moment.
"He could have hurt Victoria. I don't care what he did to me. The only thing that mattered was keeping her safe." I finally said, looking back over to him. He had a look on his face that said that he agreed with me. "I know. But we have to find out why, though. So we know what steps to take in order to not just keep her safe, but the rest of the pack."
I nodded. I also had about 100 others to worry about other than Victoria and the twins. I ran a group of werewolves and in a position where their lives had to be as important. Not saying they weren't. But my love for Victoria, made it almost impossible to compare.
I sighed, finally getting up from my seat. "I'll stay here and watch over Tori and the twins." Her father said. I nodded once. "Do you want me to send over a warrior in case something happens?" I asked him, walking over to the room door. "No. I should be okay for now until you come back."
"Okay." I sighed. But before I left, I looked back at him. He was watching Victoria sleep. "I forgot to thank you, earlier. For not just taking care of Victoria while I was hurt, but also me." I said. He just glanced over his shoulder for a second or two then looked back towards her. "Don't mention it, kid. You mean a lot to her." He said, in a tired, monotone voice. "You also are the father of my grandchildren. So, it was a no-brainer."
I just nodded, even though he wasn't looking at me and opened the door and closed it before walking down the hallway. It was quiet since there was no one else in other rooms and there only were a few nurses at the nurse's desk, quietly typing away on their computers. Some looked up and quickly nodded their respects and mumbled a "hello, Alpha" before returning to whatever they were doing.
As I left the hospital, I walked the short distance it was to the pack jail. It wasn't much, just a small, red building that housed maybe 4 jail cells total. I contemplated tearing it down or renovating it into something different since I had no use for it while becoming alpha, but never came around to it. But, luckily, I didn't because of this situation.
I walked into the small building and saw the kid was in the first jail cell. He didn't look that old. Not much younger than Victoria. And he was glaring up at me when he noticed me.
"Don't you give me that look." I snarled, baring my canines. But the kid didn't back down and snarled back. "I should've killed you when I had the chance." He said, his eyes turning solid black. "And maybe I could've killed that little mate of yours."
That hit a nerve. This little jackass. I thought to myself.
I slammed my hand against the bars. "Don't dare talk about Victoria that way, you piece of shit!" I growled lowly. He chuckled at me. "Why not?" He hummed, standing up from his bed that he was currently sitting on.
"Why'd you come into my home and attack me? Almost attacked my mate?" I demanded. But he just narrowed his eyes at me before turning back around and sitting back on the bed, not giving me an answer. "Tell me." I hissed. He just shrugged.
I huffed and pushed myself away from the bars. "Who are you, even, anyways?"
"Just someone who wants revenge."
"Revenge for what? What did me or my mate even do to you?"
He just shook his head. "You're to feeble minded to understand." He sighed, leaning back onto the bed to lay down. "What do you mean by that?" I growled. He just shrugged. "Go ask your mate. Maybe she'd know." And that was the end of it. Because he turned his back to me.
"Maybe I'll do just that." I said and walked out.
