August's POV
I don't know how long I was out. All I know is that I can't move. Can't see.
But I can hear and that I'm aware of my surroundings. Or for the most part. I know I'm in the hospital. That my arm is broken and something is wrapped around my waist. And that I have something in my throat and that I got attacked trying to save Victoria.
Victoria
My Goddess. I wonder how horrific it was for her. I hope she didn't see what happened. Or didn't come after me. All I know was that I was feeling a rush of stress and worry. That must have been her.
My poor, pregnant, Victoria. She had so much to worry about, and this had to happen. I hope it didn't send her into early labor. I wanted to be there for her. To be there when Declan and Emmalynne were born.
I didn't know who the wolf was that attacked me. I had never seen an all white wolf before. I heard an all white wolf was really rare. Most were brown, grey, or an auburn color. At least from who I've met in their wolf forms. Very rarely will you meet an all black or all white wolf like me or the one that attacked me. But all black wolves are still more common than all white ones.
Then the scent of flowers and oranges hit my nose and the sound of wheels hit my eardrums. Then the sliding door opening and closing.
It must have been Victoria from the scent. But there was another scent mixed in. It smelled like ash. It could have been her father But without actually looking, I wasn't 100% sure unless whoever it was started talking.
"Here you go, Butterfly." A male voice said, then clicking noises. So, it was Victoria's father. "Thanks, daddy." Victoria said.
Goddess, she sounded weak. Why did she sound weak? Is my mate okay?
"Mind link me when you want me to come back." He said. Victoria didn't verbally respond. She must have nodded. Then the door opened and closed again.
There was a long silence. She wasn't talking, but I could hear her breathing. It was labored, like it was hard for her to take full breaths. Her heartbeat was sporadic, like it couldn't decide if it wanted to beat normally or fast.
"I hope you wake up soon, August. I don't know how long I can wait." She whispered, almost inaudibly. "Your children are due so soon and I need you there with me. The kids will need you there. I don't care if you're 100% okay again. I just want you awake." She almost sobbed. I wish I could show her I was awake. Could hold her again and tell her I'm fine.
But I wasn't fine. I knew it and so did she. There was no lie that I wasn't fine.
"I'm technically on bed rest." She said, after a few moments of her sniffling. "I'm not supposed to walk too far or lift anything until the babies come. But I had dad bring me in a wheelchair. Since the house is kind of far from here."
Then more silence.
"It's been about 2 days since you've shown up here, August. I don't know if you can tell time right now. I don't even know if you're actually aware and can hear me. At least you're breathing on your own now. So instead of a breathing tube, you have a feeding tube in you. So you can stay alive and have enough energy to heal." She rambled. It was like she was telling me what was going on with me. I guess in case I could hear and I was up to speed. And I can hear her. I know I could try mind linking her, but I just don't have quite the energy to do that yet.
"Dad's been stopping by the last two days to wash you up. I hope you don't mind." Victoria chuckled. "He's seen all your intimate parts now, like I have. And helped change your dressings. Your side wound already looks so much better. Dr. Williams and dad say by tomorrow, it'll just be a scar. But you got bit pretty deep."
If I could shudder, I would have. Her dad saw me naked to wash me? I was grateful he'd do that for me and cared for Victoria enough to do that. But that was weird.
I heard her sigh. "I just wish there was a way you could wake up, August. I want to look into your eyes. But the doctor said you probably got hit hard enough to knock you into a coma. That he doesn't know when you'll wake up or if you ever will."
I could hear her start sobbing again. "Please, August. Just give me a sign that you're okay. That you'll wake up eventually. I don't care if you wake up in 5 days or 5 years. I just need you." She cried.
That gave me the willpower to try and open my eyes. Tried forcing myself to move and wake up. Hearing her crying over me and me being hurt was my drive now.
As if by some miracle, my eyes cracked open and a flash of bright, white light hit them. I immediately flinched, bringing up my arm that wasn't in a sling, to my face.
Then Victoria gasped. "A-August?" She asked. I couldn't say anything due to the tube, but once my eyes adjusted, I dropped my arm and looked over to her.
If I were being honest, I'd say she looked like complete shit. Even though she was obviously pregnant, she seemed skinnier than normal. She looked like she hadn't slept or eaten since the attack. Her cheeks were hollowed out and she seemed more dull than usual.
Get this damn thing out of my mouth and please, for the love of everything holy, get me some real food. I was finally able to mind link her.
She just laughed at me through her tears.
