When we got back to the palace I tried to get to my room as quickly as possible but when I got there I saw Francis sitting on my bed waiting.
"My god Francis what are you doing here" I whispered loudly as I locked the door behind me "What if someone saw you"
Francis smiled as he got up and walked over to me. "It won't be the first time they would meet me in your room" he held my cheek gently. "You look beautiful today"
I took a step back, feeling like my heart was about to burst out of my chest. "We can't do this," I stammered.
"But we don't do anything wrong except talk to each other" francis grabbed me again "I love you Bianca, I long for you. I want to marry you but I know it's impossible."
I wanted to say something back. that I also loved him and wanted to marry him too, that I want to bear his children and grow old with him. but i was disturbed by a knock on the door
I looked up at Francis who was just as startled as I was. I pointed to the closet "hide there" I whispered softly as I walked to the door.
When he was in the closet, I opened the door to my room. A maid handed me a letter and then walked away.
"You can come out again" I said after I locked the door again. Francis walked out of the closet and sat down on the bed again. "What was going on?"
I shrugged "A letter from my father" I said as I tore the letter open and read it quickly "My stepmother has passed away" I said as I threw the letter on the table.
Francis looked at me in surprise "you don't seem to be very sad about it" "of course not, it's her fault that I haven't seen my mother since I was 3 and it's her fault that I was raised far from my family. I've hated her all my life," I hissed. At the thought of my stepmother Eleanor, all I felt was hatred.
"You should go away" I sighed to Francis as I held the door open for him "See you again tonight"

After Francis left my room, I opened my father's letter again.
my dearest child,
Your stepmother Eleanor passed away 5 weeks ago and your siblings and I were in mourning, which is why you are only now getting the news. She is buried in our family chapel.
I will travel to France shortly after you receive this letter to discuss important matters with the King and then hope to meet you again after all these years.
God bless you.
Your loving father,
Cosimo De'Medici
