The End Of Something
Weeks passed and Emmie noticed that the twins hadn't been as cheerful as usual. Managing the shop was exhausting them so Emmie decided she should play a little prank to lighten up the mood. She had never played a prank by herself and certainly not on masters like them.
She decided to go with something simple... Water balloons.
She opened the living room door slightly to see Fred, George and Angelina sat round the dining table.
"wingardium leviosa," she whispered, pointing her wand at the large water balloon which was sat on the floor beside her feet.
The balloon rose until it was floating just in front of her face and then floated through the crack in the door and above the middle of the table.
Emmie lowered her wand swiftly and the balloon fell and exploded on the table, soaking the trio.
Although she had planned to stay hiden, her laughing gave her away, so Emmie entered the living room wiping her eyes.
"Look at you three," she pointed at their sopping wet clothes, still laughing.
But they didn't even crack a smile, they didn't react at all. On closer inspection, although this could have been because of the water, Angelina looked like she had been crying.
"Emmie," Fred spoke in a serious tone, "Dumbledore's dead."
"What?" She asked, she felt nothing, not because she didn't care about Dumbledore, but because she didn't believe it.
"No." She said loudly, "there must be a mistake."
"Sit down," George said, pulling a chair out for her as Angelina waved her wand at herself and each of the boys, making them dry instantly.
"Malfoy helped a load of death eaters into the castle and then Snape killed him. Snape killed Dumbledore," Fred spoke.
Tears were starting to gather in Emmie's eyes, "no!" She shouted, "no! You're wrong! That... It can't... I mean, I've always hated Snape but I thought he was on our side, we trusted him. Dumbledore trusted him."
George rubbed her back as she took a few deep breaths and calmed down slightly.
There was a silence before Emmie realised something, " wait, loads of death eaters?" She asked and Fred nodded, "is everyone else okay?"
"Bill got bitten by Fenrir Greyback," Angelina replied, "but other than that, everyone's fine,"
"Bill?" Emmie asked, "why was Bill there?"
"A few members of the order went down to help," George replied,
"Well why didn't they ask us?" Emmie asked angrily, "we could have helped too,"
"We're too young," George replied,
"Too young? We're of age!" Emmie shouted, "we should have been there fighting!"
"I agree," said Fred and George and Angelina stared at him, "I mean, who knows. That few extra people could have meant that Dumbledore survived or Bill got away unharmed."The room went silent again,
"Excuse me," Emmie said quietly before getting up from the table and walking to her bedroom. She sat down on her bed, it wasn't long before Fred joined her.
"It's going to be okay," he whispered as she leant her head on his shoulder,
"What if it isn't?" She sobbed, "Dumbledore was the only person Voldemort was scared of. Now he's gone..."
"Nothing bad is going to happen," he replied, "we've still got Harry,"
"He's just a kid," she whispered,
"Just a kid?" He asked, "without him hundreds of Muggle borns would have been killed by the Basilisk, Sirius would probably still wrongly be in Azkaban -"
She scoffed, "he would still be alive,"
"Hey,"
"So would Cedric,"
"Don't be like this," Fred said sadly, "without Harry, you wouldn't be able to produce a Patronus,"
Emmie looked at her feet, "I suppose so,"
"Hey," he elbowed her lightly, "that prank was pretty good,"
She laughed quietly, "thanks."*
Emmie entered the living room to see Fred and George in suits and jackets made of black dragonskin. She was wearing a black knee-length dress with a white shirt underneath.
"Ready?" Fred asked and she nodded and, with a loud crack, they arrived at Hogwarts. The warmth of the sun caressed their faces as they walked towards the lake, where hundreds of chairs had been set our in rows. An aisle ran down the centre of them, there was a marble table standing at the front.
An extraordinary assortment of people had already settled into half of the chairs: shabby and smart, old and young. There were a few people that Emmie recognised including members of the Order Of The Phoenix: Kingsley Shacklebolt, Mad-Eye Moody, Tonks, Remus Lupin, Mr and Mrs Weasley, Bill and Fleur.
The trio sat down as Hogwarts students were leaving the castle and walking towards them, led by Professor McGonagall.
Once everyone was seated, Hagrid started to slowly walk up the aisle, he was crying quite silently and, in his arms, wrapped in purple velvet spangled with golden stars, was Dumbledore's body.
Hagrid placed the body carefully upon the table and a little man in plain black robes got to his feet and stood in front of it.
Emmie couldn't hear what he was saying but she caught odd words, "nobility of spirit... Intellectual contribution... Greatness of heart..."
None of it seemed to make much sense and it had little to do with Dumbledore but, Emmie supposed, it's the thought that counts.
The man stopped speaking at last and then, after a silence, several people screamed. Emmie jumped as bright, white flames erupted around Dumbledore's body and the table upon which it lay, higher and higher it rose and white smoke spiralled into the air making strange shapes. Within the blink of an eye, the fire vanished, in its place was a white marble tomb, encasing the body and the table.George handed Emmie a tissue as a buzz of conversation grew around them. She smiled as she took it and wiped her eyes, "this is nice," she said and the boys agreed.
