missed me? i sure missed you.

Harry Styles

Just like that, the camera signal drops to static. One perfectly angled bullet fire hit our last resort of seeing her. I stay frozen in my chair, staring at the static-filled screen like this is all a twisted dream. My mind is lost, my blood running cold in my chest and head. Handcuffed to a chair, all I could do is think about what the fuck just happened.

Malikai stays standing in front of the screens with his back to me, staring at the white static-like he couldn't believe this either. I don't know if he's pleased or confused, probably both. She won, she won the fight. She survived against Quincy as he asked—but now she's on the loose.

That same girl that just killed a grown man with her own two hands is now somewhere in this precinct covered in blood and holding a gun. She's probably on an adrenaline rush that will only make her fatal to anyone in her path. Just like the getaway driving, she killed those cops and was on nothing but a high after. There's a part of her craves chaos.

"I tried warning you..." I whisper under my breath, my body fading away with the lack of insulin and food in my systems. "She will only become a power you can't compete with."

He turns around and looks at me, an unreadable expression that just tells me he has a plan in his mind but wouldn't dare expressing. His jaw goes sharp but he keeps his composure. I've never seen this man ever scream or freak out in frustration or anger. He keeps all his emotions on the inside, who knows what he's thinking.

"She succeeded as I wanted."

I chuckle under my breath, my eyes heavy.

"And now she's loose in this building because she won't stop until she knows I'm okay. She is never going to be submissive to your power, Kai. Not if you get rid of me, not if you kill me." I state in serious terms, my voice only but a tired mumble at this point.

He snickers in amusement but I know he's actually a little flabbergasted by this whole situation. Deep down, he knows I'm right. He wants her so bad yet he knows there are some things that even he will never be able to control.

"Aven two years ago may have folded over and let you take superiority of her. But Aven since this tour is never going to do anything she doesn't want to do. I've watched her grow into someone she likes, someone that doesn't need me or anyone to make her feel safe. She's changed, and I've only ever cheered her on. You may have surveillance of her in random events, notes about her written on paper, and random info from a mother that hasn't seen her since she was a kid. But you will never be able to understand her like I do, to see what I've seen by her side." I explain with all the strength I have.

"I don't need to see her like you do in order to know what she needs."

"Then you are never going to be able to handle her." I shake my head, knowing it's true.

"She has potential, I will not let that go to waste."

"I know she has potential. But the potential I see in her versus the potential you see in her is why we're in this mess, isn't it?" I add.

The door flies open from behind me, I turn my head immediately to see the two previous guards entering in a rush. One still has dried blood down the side of his face, a bandage wrapped around his head in order to cover his mangled ear.

"What's the protocol here?" One says in urgency. "All the doors are unlocked from a system crash, the girl is gone."

"What do you mean gone?"
