Chapter 9

(Levi P.O.V.)
I was late for school. Although I wasn't usually keen on being late, today I just wasn't feeling it. I was under the weather because of the after effects of my cold. Let me tell you, being paranoid is not fun when your me, I get jumpy.

I walked into the school and made my way to math. The teacher was kind of irked that I showed up five minutes before the bell rings, but I really didn't care enough to argue back.

Armin and I exchanged our brief greetings then turned back to our remaining minutes of the lesson.

The day lulled by in an uneventful manner. Erwin, being the ever curious, asked me what was wrong.

"I just feel a little out of it."

"It's because you were sick dummy."
Eren's voice came from behind making me jump a little in my seat.

Did I mention it was lunch time?

I turned to the brat. "Don't sneak up on me like that."

He laughed. "Sorry."

I didn't feel like eating today so I just listened to music on my phone. Things like 'My Chemical Romance' and 'Green Day' were unpopular in France but hell I loved the shit.

I guess the bell rang, I didn't really hear it. I just had that sense and went to my usual place outside for free period. I knew Eren would join me soon so I turned my music up louder.

"Turn away, if you could get me a drink of water, 'cause my lips are chapped and faded." I sang quietly to myself.

"Call my Aunt Marie, help her gather all my things, and bury me in all my favorite colors, my sisters and my brothers still...I will not kiss you,"

I hadn't noticed that Eren showed up and sang with me until the chorus. We didn't stop singing though.

"'Cause the hardest part of this is leaving you."

"Now turn away, 'cause I'm awful just to see. 'Cause all my hairs abandoned all my body, Oh my agony."

"Just know that I will never marry, baby I'm just soggy from the chemo but counting down the days to go."

Eren's voice became louder at this part. He wasn't too bad, actually scratch that he was amazing.

"It just ain't living and I just hope you know."

"That if you say... good bye today, I'd ask you to be true."

"Cause the hardest part of this is leaving you."

"'Cause the hardest part of this is leaving you."

When the song ended I put my phone away then looked to Eren who smiled brightly at me.

"You have a good voice, Levi."

"You weren't bad."

"Rude."

He laughed at the end of his joke and then asked if I wanted to walk around the school grounds with him.

I have nothing better to do. Why not?

We walked at a slow pace in silence, which in a way was odd because knowing how Eren is, he'd usually be jumping around and yelling a bunch of nonsense at the top of his lungs.

"Eren, you're quiet."

"Meh, I need some solitude in my life."

There it was, that embarrassing amused noise again.

He looked at me funny. "Why do you stop yourself from laughing like that?"

"What?" I was honestly confused by the question.

"That noise. Your holding yourself back from laughing and it's coming out like that." He pointed to my mouth.

I would have argued but at this point I believed him. "I don't know why I do it." I stated and began to walk again.

His footsteps followed after mine until he was at my side again.

"I'd like to hear you laugh a real laugh."

"Ha...ha...ha." it came out sarcastic and as monotone as I could make it.

"Wow I'm in such awe." Eren stated dramatically.

"C'mon there has to be something that gets you laughing."

"The death of my enemies."

"I could actually see you standing on their bodies laughing like a psychopath."

"You sure that isn't Hanji?"

Eren blinked then grinned. "Oh yeah."

He busted out laughing. There was something about his laugh that seemed off. Like it was forced.

"And you tell me to actually laugh." I mumbled.

"What was that?"

"Nothing, brat. Lets go the bell is going to ring soon."

He nodded and we went inside and to our separate classes.
