Letting out a sigh, that apparently, I wasn't even aware I was holding in. People in the room, turning their head slightly, to look at me. I rolled my eyes, and simply brushed their glances away.
Why, just why, did we have to have a mandatory meeting today? Out of all days in the week, month hell even the whole damn year, why today? “Ugh”! I screamed inside my head. I began fidgeting with a loose string hanging from one of the buttons on my shirt, in an attempt to tune everyone out.
I woke up this morning excited, not to mention a little nervous as well. Couldn't wait until the clock struck five o'clock. Last night, I was browsing my emails like I normally do before bed. I had noticed, that I received an email from an unfamiliar email address. So, curiosity got the best of me and I clicked it open.
Subject: Hey
KB,
Hello Love. I know it's been awhile since we have spoken. I was flipping through some old yearbooks, when I spotted you. Not only that, but I knew that I had to see you again. I'm aware that this must have you guessing if this is some kind of joke or not.
“WTF”? First of all, how do they know my name? Secondly, who keeps yearbooks? They're just filled with unwanted memories of your childhood. People who you were forced to be around all day long. Going in and out of classes, learning boring stuff, most of which we didn't even need in the real world. Lastly, who the hell is this creep? Seriously, I was a nobody in school. So, I continued reading.
I hate to misinform you, this is no joke! I wondered if you would be interested in meeting with me to see for yourself. I'll be at Luigi's around five o'clock tomorrow evening. Hope to see you there!
~Kareem~
As soon as I saw his name, I went searching for a yearbook. Instantly, I froze. “Shit”! Smacking my hand up against my forehead. Reminding myself that I'm one of those idiots who threw the trashy yearbooks away. Just my freaking luck. Now I'm going to have to go and see for myself if this is just someone messing with me. Hopefully, this isn't a scam and I end up murdered somewhere. My body thrown in an empty alley way, beaten and covered in blood. For some homeless person to find while searching for a place to crash for the night. “Ha-ha”! Knowing my luck, that's more than likely what would happen.
“Katherine! Hello!” Mr. Smith said, as a hand waved in front of my face. Bringing me back to reality, in turn causing me to snap out of my daze. Blinking as I started to stutter the words, “www-hat”?
I glanced around the once crowded room, seeing everyone has left besides Mr. Smith. I wondered how long I was zoned out for. Looking around until my eyes met the ticking clock on the wall. Already after three o'clock. Great.
“ Everyone has left, what are you doing still here”? Mr. Smith said. “I- umm… see you later” I managed to spit out. Quickly as I ran out of the room.
I hurried home, ready to find out who this mystery Kareem guy is. I still couldn't wrap my head around it. Like, why me? I was a ghost in that school. No one ever paid attention to me. I stayed in the shadows. Barely ever making any eye contact or spoke to people.
Sure, people would constantly make comments about me as I passed in the hallways. I always just kept my head bowed down, while squeezing my books tightly to my chest. Walking to my next destination. Figured if I didn't speak back or look at them, then I'd make it through the school day. So, this has really spiked my curiosity. I keep telling myself, there's only one way to find out. But do I really want to find out,, though? Eh, what else do I have to do?
Putting on a thin pair of red leggings, slightly fumbling over my own two feet. I looked in the mirror to make a quick last-minute adjustment.
Pretty pleased with my choice of apparel. I mean, I'm not trying to look “sexy” or anything. I'm going for the comfortable/in case I do get murdered look. Red leggings, a black long sleeve button-up shirt, and my red and black converse shoes.
“Sigh”… Well, here goes nothing….
