"This is bullshit." I grumbled kicking the door shut behind me. The loud sound echoed around the room. "Are they just sitting around doing absolutely nothing? Do they not care that there are kids lives at stake?"
"They know. Doesn't mean it makes it their top priority." Hawks flopped back onto his bed. "Patrolling is getting us no where."
"No shit." I growled out sitting down in the chair. It's been three days since Hawks and I began our investigation. We've not heard anything back concerning the chemical we sent in. No other kids have been taken either. Thankfully. Still for them to be so desperate to recruit me for this mission they wasn't doing anything to speed up the process of finding any leads. Each time Hawks called our lovely agent we were met with the same answer. Apparently we just had to sit here and wait like good little lap dogs. I am no dog and if that woman even thinks I'll roll over like one she was dead wrong.
"Don't take it out on me Kai," Hawks sighed. "I'm as frustrated as you are."
"I'm sorry," I mumble taking deep breath. I truly was sorry. I harbored a grudge against the man, but he's been nothing but helpful and patient with my harsh attitude towards him. We needed to work together. "The patrols aren't working because even though who ever is taking these kids is ballsy, I don't think they're stupid enough to do it in front of two heroes. Especially the number three hero."
"Maybe." He sat up and looked at me. "We can try changing up our tactics."
"What do you mean?" I raise an eyebrow at him
"I can patrol from the sky during the day and you go out at night," He shrugged. "With that eye sight of yours it shouldn't be a problem."
"Did you forget I'm basically on probation? If they see me out without you close by, I'm done for. Saori won't hesitate to take everything." I rubbed my hand over my face. I was exhausted. The small couch in the room was very uncomfortable not to mention no where near long enough for me to lay down. The last few nights have been spent tossing and turning.
"You need to rest." He pointed at my still made bed.
"I'm fine."
"You did this back then too. Why don't you sleep on the bed. They're not too bad."
"It's a story I'm not willing to share at the moment," I mumble. I really didn't want to talk about this.
"Not willing to or won't because it's me?" Hawk's voice was small. Hurt.
"Both." I reply truthfully. We both got quiet for a couple minutes after. The silence heavy. He laid back and stared up at the ceiling and I just leaned back in the chair and closed my eyes.
We had gone over the reports and file countless times. Still we couldn't find anything. Somewhere in my gut I knew that there was something there that would help lead us to catching this villain. But at the moment we saw nothing. Maybe it's because we were looking too hard or that we were that desperate to find a small clue. To us nothing was connecting. Nothing repeated. The ages, gender, place of abduction, and quirks were all varied.
"We need fresh eyes Hawks." I finally said breaking the quiet.
"Who are you thinking?" He asked sitting back up. The sound of his feathers ruffling as he moved his wings.
"My first thought would be Atsumi. He has some of the worlds top scientists on call. But that would require telling him something."
"We'd have to run it by Saori," Hawks had already spoke with the woman once today and I could tell he was no where near thrilled to do so again. He pulled out his phone and dialed a number. "We need to ask for something."
