Frank
I HAD BEEN IN AUROR TRAINING FOR LESS THAN A MONTH NOW. Every morning, I'd step into the building and take in the chlorine smelled atmosphere. The smell came from the Fountain of Magical Brethren. And every once in a while, I'd stare at the fountain that stood in the centre of the room. Then my eyes would wander, and I would often find myself gawking at the architecture of the building.
No matter how many times I stared at the walls or ceilings, I couldn't get over the fact that I was here. And every morning, I knew this is what I wanted to do. Because I felt complete.
Although I knew I wanted to walk into this building every day for the rest of my life, I didn't enjoy the paperwork that came with training. Newgoers, the Aurors in training, were tasked with paperwork in the morning and training in the evening. The training wasn't exciting either. It was often a long lecture about what was allowed and what wasn't.
Frequently, I would come home and my mum would praise me because her son was an Auror. Although I loved the praises, I couldn't help but feel flat about it. I wanted more. What that more was, I don't know. But I knew that I didn't become an Auror because of the paperwork.
I walked down to the office and began the work I didn't have time to complete from the previous day. These were mainly reports of attacks that had no evidence of happening. Overthinkers are usually the ones to call in the reports. People who would hear the wind and assume a follower of Voldemort was watching them. We had to take every single notice seriously to prevent more deaths but there was a part of me that wished I wasn't the one checking the documents. Others shared the same complaints.
"Alright, boys. Stand up, " Our instructor commanded. I dropped my quill and did as I was told. "Maverick. Sterling. Out." The instructor pointed to the door. No one moved as the tension filled the room. "Did I speak a foreign language? Out." I kept my eyes forward, scared that if I looked back, I would also get kicked out. Eventually, the two men left the room.
"Everything we do should be taken seriously and is there for a reason. You will not be seeing those two again as they have failed their training. Now, if anyone of you would like to join them, I would suggest leaving now." No one moved. "Perfect. I'm guessing you boys didn't become an Auror because you love reviewing reports. So, let's begin. Shall we?" He paused for dramatic effect. "Tomorrow you will begin taking a series of character and aptitude tests. Many of you will fail these tests, but if you can believe it, I do wish to see you all move forward in training. Go home, get some sleep, if you can. And be here ready to be pushed to the limit. You are excused."
