Elizabeth...
I woke up to the far away bells of the church. No one has died today, so it must be sunday mass.
It's been about a week since Vic made his choice, to go back to America. Ever since then, I've been waiting anxiously on my toes for the moment he calls.
This morning, I took Micky to walk around the town we were staying in. It's a small one, with more green and brown and cream colors. The houses have vines growing on them, and the sidewalks are stoned. They give your feet a small massage.
"Elizabeth?" I heard him call, and I put the newspaper down. I sipped some coffee.
"Yes, Micky?"
"Are we going to go back to America?" He asked.
"Who told you that?"
"Vic did! He said that you'd be going back, and I asked him if I could go too. He didn't say anything. Are we all going to go?"
I frowned, for a split second, before smiling and nodding my head, "yeah, I'll make sure you come with me."
He smiled and nodded too, then went back to eating his sandwich and playing his games.
What he said surprised me, and caught me off gaurd. I didn't know Vic would be sending me, alone. No matter how much I hate the life he lives, Vic is still my family. He's blood.
I've been with him for so long, I don't think I can go on my own. And why would he need me to go on my own anyway?
What does he have planned for me?
...
I set my bag down, containing orange juice. My favorite drink.
I let Micky go play in a feild with some local kids. He needs to play with others, he's still a kid. A strange one, but still one. He says he wants to grow big and strong so that he can work with Vic's men and protect me.
I just laugh and pat his head. I can take care of myself, but the thought is nice.
I put the juice in the fridge, and then turn a corner to the small thumping sound. Its faint, but it's there.
"Vic?!" I call out. I didn't want to be scared, not by him.
I walk slowly to his room and open it, after knocking and hearing no answer. Inside, I see one of Vic's men standing in front of him, his head down and a broken nose. Vic takes one look at me and tells the man to leave us. I take the chance and rush up to him.
"You said that they'd never be here." I growl, angry as he sits in his chair with a relaxed smile.
"Relax, Elizabeth. It wasn't for long. He's gone now."
I shook my head and sat on his bed.
"Are you going to send me to America?" I asked. Might as well cut the bullshit.
"Yes. You'll be on your own private mission, and I'll give you everything you need."
I gasped softly at the confirmation. Vic is sending me on a job. My very own mission, after years of trying to fight for my command. After all this time, I get a chance to prove myself worthy.
"What am I going to be doing?" I ask, hopeful.
"Your mission is very important, the most important thing of this whole operation. Renovi is starting to get suspicious as to why we are moving more drugs and weapons to America.
"You will go to New York, and find Charles Freeman, that FBI agent I held years ago. Do you remember him?"
I nodded. How could I forget? I saw him walk out with my brother.
