Elizabeth...
I woke Tori up and basically had to drag her to get ready. After what Charles told me, I felt a little off during school. He wasn't wrong but, I didn't like to think of myself that way. I wanted to be selfish, like everyone else and not think about what I looked like in the big picture.
I followed Tori like a lost puppy.
"You good Elizabeth?" She asked, handing me a couple of wet grapes from her tray. I shook my head and told her I was alright.
"I'm just tired, is all. I didn't get much sleep last night."
"Oh yeah, I didn't see you come home. Where were you?" She asked, her head tilted to the side.
I smiled and said, "I went to a party,"
"A party?! And I couldn't go?" She semi yelled.
"Tori it wasn't your place. You wouldn't have even liked it, it was boring. Think of the parties from like, queen Elizabeth. Everyone looked like her."
(A/N: Guys I wrote this like 5 months ago don't come at me!!)
"Jeez, what kind of parties do you go to?" She said.
"Boring ones," Elizabeth lied, knowing fully well that last night gave her a rush she didn't know she missed.
She was starting to notice the little string that was pulling harder for her to go back to her old ways. And she wasn't looking to try and stop herself.
...
"Tori?" I said worried, "what's wrong? You look sad."
"Evan moved."
I flew to my sister and placed a gentle touch on her shoulder. "Are you upset?"
"I don't know! He told me a bunch of things right now, in the music room... I think he hates me now."
"Why would he hate you?"
"I think it's because I tried to reach out to him," She said and knelt down in a squatting position on the side of the road. She was tearing up. "I think he hated that I tried to even speak to him."
"He couldn't have hated you for that."
"Maybe...or he just hates me now because I tried to see how far I could take him. I feel bad for even trying."
I shuffled closer to her, dragging my arm around her and hugging her tightly. "You can't be hated. Your too good," I say.
"I'm too niave to be thinking like that. He finally opened my eyes." She said softly into my shirt.
I thought she was growing up. But she was already growing, she just hadn't realized it yet. Now she has, thanks to Evan.
...
Third person...
Tori spent the rest of the day sulking in her room, not even letting in Elizabeth. She was too busy in her own world, with her own thoughts, to even think about anything else.
She took the rest of the day to re-evaluate herself, in a way. Elizabeth was now forced to keep herself entertained, and she was starting to worry if it meant being alone with her thoughts.
.
.
.The night came, and Elizabeth tried one last time to get Tori to open the door.
"Victoria! My arse is getting sore from that dull couch--my back hurts! Let me in!" She pleaded while shaking the door nob.
Suddenly it opened before her, revealing an empty room and open window.
Victoria stood before Evan under the night sky, in the wet grass, as sprinkler moved from side to side on repeat. The sound was doing her a favor by not leaving them in complete akward silence.
"You call me now?" She asked, walking in on him.
"If I never called?"
"I would have gone to school tomorrow with a smile on my face," She smiled teasingly. Her heart hurt, though, she didn't want him to know.
"I'm sorry for what I said today. I didn't-"
"You did. Don't lie, I know you did. It wasn't very nice, the way you put it, but you weren't wrong."
"So what? Are you different now or something?"
No, pff" She giggled as she walked around him, not sure of what to do with her feet, or where to look, or where to put her hands. So she swayed them from side to side, hoping to hide her shivers of cold and nervousness.
"What's so funny?"
"I thought you liked me?"
Evan grew felt a deep heat in his cheeks and ears. Being laughed at, even if it wasn't anything deep, made him feel foolish. Like, how dare he show emotion?!
"I still do," he said, and took a hefty step towards her, stopping her in her tracks.
Face to face, their bodies quivered with a weak feeling growing in their stomachs, wondering what was next.
"Why? Didn't you just say-"
"That doesn't mean I don't like you. Your just a little...."
"Nobody's perfect, Evan!"
"I know. Then why do you like me?"
She paused with shock and embarrassment. It wasn't like Tori was the exception to emotion, or showing it just because she was the one observing his. She just forgot for a while.
"Because you didn't care," She whispered, feeling too weak to say anything aloud now. Not with his face so close to hers, eyes staring deep, lips... almost touching.
And then they did, so softly they brushed against each other. In a smooth sync wave, he cupped her cheek as he kissed her.
Almost like he was transferring all of his thoughts into her through the kiss, she knew what this meant.
She knew what he felt, and what would happen afterwards. Despite his harsh words, attitude, and cold gaze, she still thought his lips were warm. And that was all that mattered in the moment.
It was all she really needed then.
A warm kiss to help her move on. To help her understand, things were changing. She should be too.
They pulled apart for a couple seconds, before he pulled her back in for another. And another. And more, until they laughed it off on the wet grass without a thought for the next morning light.
She had ready been moving on.
