Slowly, my consciousness awakes out of a long deep sleep. As I gently turned around, I saw Jen looking at me as she gently stroke her soft warm fingers on my cheek. I feel the warmth of her body next to mine.
"Good morning, Pue-pue." Nakangiting bungad niya. Ngiting habambuhay kong ipagdarasal na sana.. sana makita ko bawat paggising ko sa umaga.
Tinakpan ko yung bibig ko bago magsalita. Mahirap na baka amoy panis na laway.
"G-good morning.." She then giggled at niyakap ako. Ginawa niyang unan yung dibdib ko.
I heard her giggles as she laid down on me. Alam kong dinig na dinig nya yung lakas ng kabog ng puso ko ngayon.
"You're so warm."
Oh God, why is she like this? I'm soft for her.
"Kain muna tayo? Bago kita ihatid sa bahay niyo." I asked but she slightly shook her head. I smiled bitterly, as my fingers combed her long black hair.
"I want to stay here, with you.." She said. My fingers burned trails down her skin as I cupped her cheeks. I held her head a little for her to look at me and traced the half-moons looming under her eyes.
"May problema ba?" Hindi agad siya sumagot at mahabang katahimikan lang ang pumagitna saming dalawa. Something is wrong with her. Hindi naman kasi siya ganito sakin. I mean clingy siya pero hindi ganito.
"You can tell me anything, Jen.." Instead of answering, she just hugged me so tight. There was no awkwardness, no questioning the presence of the other person, just space filled with light touches and warm bodies.
"Don't leave me, Lisa. You're my only friend." My hand suddenly stopped brushing her hair.
Friend.
Right. I almost forgot I'm just her friend.
My eyes went absent as they gazed back at the ceiling. Empty-- and as flat as a mirror, my mind turned foggy. This was something that I could get used to, and it terrified me even more.
Like always.. always Jen, I am just a friend.
"I won't and will never do that. Unless sabihin mo sakin na layuan kita." My body throbbed with a soft soreness that made me feel whole and watched over. My skin was saturated with warmth, but my chest felt cold and empty.
"Thank you, Lisa. Thank you for everything." The surrounding sound ceased and everything seemed to slow down. Except for my heartbeat reverberating in my ears.
Nasasaktan ako sa katotohanan na hanggang dito lang ang parte ko sa buhay niya at hindi na mababago yun.
