Chapter 18

Mia's POV : 

It's been 2 weeks since I was in Alex's penthouse. We really enjoyed these two weeks going on dates and spending night with together. No we didn't have sex but we did a lot of cuddling. Last Sunday, we went to amusement park. It was really fun. We share kisses here and there. Alex has been really caring towards. But when ever I tried to talk to him about our past, he would change the subject. Now I am sure there is something not alright. 

Today I am going to meet my mom because tomorrow is her birthday. I didn't tell her and Paul about it. Either she is going to be happy or angry. Happy because she is going to see me after a long time and angry because I came without telling her. She always say, 'whenever you decided to come home, tell me a day before so I can make your favorite food'. A smiled broke on my face thinking about my mom. She is the most precious person in my life. Because of her, I am now a successful fashion designer. She supported me in every thing. 

I was lost in my thoughts when my phone rang. I parked my car side of the road and looked at the caller id. It's Alex. I rolled my eyes. He called me more than ten times till now. I picked up the call. 

" What now Alex?" I asked him in annoyance. 

" Where are you now?" He asked me calmly. 

" I almost reached there" I replied. 

" Ok be safe and call me when you reach there. Bye take care" He said and before I could say anything he hung up. I looked at my phone in disbelief. This guy is doing it since morning. Just because we fought yesterday. Why? I will tell you. First he was going come with me but then his mom called and said she wants him home. He didn't want to but his mom insisted. I told him it's ok he can go that I will take him with me some other time. But he said we will go tomorrow, don't go alone now. I got angry and we started fighting. At last I won but he rushed out of the house in anger. Till now he is angry. 

I reached my home in 2 and half hours. Silently I got out of the car and locked it. I parked my car a little before my house. Front door was opened, I tiptoed inside. Then I heard voices of two people. I peaked in the living room and saw Mom and Paul standing there. I was going to make my appearance known just then I heard something which left me in shock. 

" You mean, you told Mia's ex-boyfriend to break up with her. But why?" Paul asked mom in disbelief. Which boyfriend? As I remember, Mom really liked Chase. She was upset when we broke up.

" Of course I did. I know what is good for my daughter. Alexander was from a rich family. Someday he would have left her for another girl and I don't want my daughter to feel the pain I felt" Mom said in stern voice. My eyes widened. I put my palm on my mouth in shock.

" How can you do it? you should have asked him if he was serious about her or maybe you should have gave him a warning to not hurt Mia" Paul said in anger. 

" Well I asked him and he said he loved her but I know what teenage love is like. That love was not going to last long. So I told him, if he really loved Mia he would leave her and never talk to her again or I would abandon Mia" She said looking at her nails. My eyes widened again as well as Paul's. 

" Wtf! were you really going to abandon Mia?" He asked in disbelief. Mom rolled her eyes. 

" Of course not. She is my precious daughter. I will never let her away from me but I had to say it to get rid of him" Mom said. I can't believe my mom would do it. 

" Then what he said?" Paul asked calmly. 

" He tried to make me understand. But when I didn't listen to him, He said, ' I know how much Mia loves you, please don't abandon her. I will break our relationship'. For a moment, I felt bad for him. But I had to do what is right for my daughter" Mom said sighing. I can't believe this. 

I decided to come out. It's time to face my mom. Know about everything. I went in the living room. Paul was the first one to see me. 

" Mia" Paul whispered in shock. My mom swiftly turned towards me. Her eyes showed shock and concern. 

" Hello Paul" I said looking at him. He just gave me a small smile after recovering from shock. 

" Mia I-" My mom was going to say something but I held my hand in front of her to stop her. 

" What are you going to say now mom?" I asked her. Tears threaten to fall out of my eyes. Mom's face showed guilt. But then she composed herself and looked at me sternly.

" I did what is good for you and don't you dare question me, I am your mother" She said and folded her arms in front of her chest. 

" Really! Do you really think, I was happy after what you did?" I asked her. I could see regret in her eyes but she refused to show it on face. My mom was always good at hiding emotions. But I didn't know she was hiding her real emotions, when I was crying because Alex broke my heart. 

" Why did you do it? You knew how much I loved him. You knew how much I cried when he broke my heart. Oh Sorry! You were the one who made him broke my heart" I said and chuckled bitterly. I was feeling hurt while saying this. 

" I know Mia but he was never good for you. He is from rich family. They don't have feelings. They think of us as toys. They play with our feelings and then one day they leave us" She said looking broken. 

" What do you mean?" I asked her. I don't know why she hates rich people. When I became friends with Ari, she thought Ari is spoiled brat. She used to tell me to stay away from Ari but whenever Ari used to come to meet me, she would talk to my mom respectfully. Then after some time, my mom started liking her. And now mom think of her as a daughter. 

" Nothing" She said avoiding my eyes. Paul was also looking down. 

" Mom tell me or I will walk out from here and never come back" I said threatening voice. Her eyes widened hearing my words. 

" Are you threatening me?" She asked me. 

" No mom I am not. But I want to know. Please tell me the reason behind your hate for Alex. Tell me why you think Alex is not good choice for me" I pleaded. She hesitate for sometime then sighed and nodded. 

"  Ok I think this is the time for you to know everything. But first we will have lunch then we will talk" She said. I nodded. 

I and Paul sat at the dining table in the kitchen. Paul was asking me about boutique and all. After sometime, mom came in the kitchen. She served us lunch and we started eating in silence. After eating and washing utensils, she came in the living room where me and Paul were sitting. Mom sat beside Paul on the love sit. He wrapped his arm around her kissed her forehead. 

" Are you ready to tell me now?" I asked her. She looked at me and nodded. 

" Mia do you remember? You used to ask me who is your father and where is he" She said looking into my eyes. I looked at her with furrowed brows. 

" Yes and you never told me anything. But why are you saying this now?" I asked her. 

" That is where everything started" She said. I was still confused. She chuckled looking at my expressions.

" Your dad and I used to study together in College. There were many groups in College. Like group of smart students, group of rich students. I was not in any group because I didn't have any friends. Everyone used to make fun of me because of my braces" She said sadly looking down at her hands. 

" Only one person was there who was good to me. He was also from popular crowd but he was really nice. I used to genuinely like him because he never bullied me. His name was Xavier" Mom said and a tear dropped from her eye. I got one thing that is...
