It was another ordinary day and I was heading to the boys team to meet up with Kuroo and Kenma. The girls team had just finished practice and Kuroo, Kenma and I would take the train home together.
I opened my mouth but no words come out as I felt myself go flying into the air. I landed in a pair of arms and looked to see Kuroo with a smug grin on his face, "Falling for me?"
I scoffed and stood up. My cheeks flushed with colour as Kuroo laughed at my reaction. I turned my attention to whoever I ran into to apologize and my head slowly tilts upward.
A boy well over six feet is looking down at me with a frantic look on his face, "Gomen! Are you alright?"
I rubbed my head, "I'm fine. I guess I should watch where I am going."
The boy had light grey hair and green catlike eyes. He had long arms and legs. I took a look around at the team and then back to him, "I've never seen you before. Are you new?"
The boy nodded his head, "I am. My name is Lev Haiba. I'm going to be the ace of the team."
Personality alone, he reminded me a little of Hinata. Both were passionate about volleyball and being the very best. I shook his hand, "Nice to meet you, Lev. My name is Ayame."
"Ayame just shook his hand," Yamamoto cried out, "I'm so jealous."
I shook my head at the second year, "Ignore him."
"Good, you're here," Nekomata greeted me, "I wanted you around to hear the announcement as well."
"Oh?" Lev was intrigued, "Are you our team manager."
I shook my head, "No, I'm the libero on the girls team. I just help out whenever I can."
"We have been invited to Kunihira Senior High for a practice match that will take place in a few days."
Shock appeared on all of our faces.
Yaku was the first to speak, "The Fukurōdani training camp will soon be taking place and having a practice match so soon is unusual."
"Lev, I want you to take place in this match."
The boys and Coach Naoi gasped in shock and I whispered to Kenma, "What is that reaction for? Is it because he is a first year?"
Kenma whispered back to me, "Lev always can't receive a toss that well."
"Oh..."
"Did you hear that?" Lev exclaimed, "I'll be playing a game."
"Lev is still having trouble syncing to tosses," Naoi protested.
"Kenma," Nekomata told the setter, "Set aside some time to practice sets with Lev."
"What?" Kenma frowned, "No can do."
"What do you mean no can do?" Lev asked him.
I watched them practice a while longer and realized what kenma meant by Lev's ability.
Yamamoto laughed at Lev. The tall first year pointed a thumb to himself and said, "A technique only I can master!"
I didn't know what to say to that. After their practice we went to get some food at the convienence store. I sat in between Inuoka and Kuroo eating some rice.
"How was practice?" Kuroo asked me.
"It was fine," I replied, "For my little fever stunt, I'm in charge of cleaning up the gym. I think Yua has it out for me."
Kuroo laughed at me and I crossed my arms, "Not funny."
"I'll be ready in time for the next match as the ace," Lev promised.
