I was helping in preparing the BBQ feast the teachers had planned with the other managers when my stomach growled and the scent of meat filled the air. My mouth drooled, "It smells so good."
Eri was balling her eyes out cutting some onions and Kaori and Yukie smiled. Mako replied to me, "I bet you are just as excited as the boys."
After practicing with Karasuno, my stomach was on empty. I saw Yachi with a pile of plates.
"Yachi," I jogged over to her, "Do you need any help?"
"It's okay, Ayame," Yachi said.
The sounds of grumbling stomachs echoed across the training camp. In no time at all, the BBQ was ready and the coaches all lined up in front of the ravenous students.
"Ahem..." Nekomata announced, "Thank you all for the hard work in this one week training camp, folks. The empty stomach is what tasty food smiles at. Let your muscles repair to your heart's content."
"Thanks for the food!" The boys chanted not one second after Nekomata finished speaking.
To say it was a stampede was putting it mildly. I felt myself get carried like a wave as the boys rushed past me. They were eating as if they hadn't eaten in 10,000 years.
"Go grab some food," Kaori told me.
"But shouldn't I be helping you girls out?" I asked her.
Kaori smiled, "Don't worry, the girls get their own grill that the boys can't touch. We'll just eat after. You are a player and need to refuel. Don't worry though, we'll save you some on ours as well."
Tears went down my face as I looked at the third year Fukurōdani manager like she was an angel, "Kaori..."
My hungry stomach led me to a tray and I put on some meat and vegetables. The tender meat and savoury vegetables filled my mouth. My stomach was satisfied and I instantly moaned elated.
"Huh?" I stood in the centre confused as I drew the attention of some boys.
I simply ignored them and watched everyone else. Kageyama was stuffing himself and started choking. Akaashi handed him a cup of water. Bokutō moved in like a snake and snatched up all the meat from the barbecue near Kuroo and Kai. He tried to make a getaway when Kuroo grabbed the Fukurōdani captain, "Hey! Bokutō, damn you! Don't you be stealing it from the side, you bastard!"
"Have some rice balls, too!" Kaori offered to Asahi.
"Oh," Asahi accepted, "Thank you-"
Everyone, including me, was shocked to see Yukie eat all the ones on the other plate in one fell swoop.
Elsewhere, Noya, Tanaka and Yamamoto were intimidating other boys at the camp from approaching Kiyoko who stood off to the side with her plate of food.
Yamaguchi and Tsukishima were sitting on the same step as Kenma away from the chaos when Dachi held out a plate full of food for the blonde, "You need to eat more!"
"No," Tsukishima trie dto turn it down, "I can't eat that much."
"Come on," Kuroo stepped in, "Eat some veggies, too."
He caught Kenma who was playing video games instead of eating, "you too, Kenma, damn you!"
Kenma shook his head at Kuroo at the thought of eating vegetables.
"Eat some rice," Dachi said.
Bokutō slid into the chaos holding two tongs of meat, "You mean meat! Eat some meat, Tsukki or you won't be able to grow big!"
