"Thank you," I quietly said to the secretary who had gotten an ice pack for my swollen face.
We were all waiting in the office for Vice Principal Sato to come out of his office.
"Just wait," Ariake said, "You'll be suspended and I'll never have to see you again."
"More like the other way around," I fire back.
"Who are you to speak to me?"
"Who are you to start a fake rumour and start beating up my best friend?"
"She had it coming."
I was about to get out of my seat when a hand went to my shoulder. It was Kuroo. His hazel eyes were telling me to back down and I listened. They glanced over at Ariake with a burning hatred. Naomi and Etsuko were silent, but the look in their eyes could kill.
"What happened?" Yua arrived at the office.
She caught sight of Etsuko and I in the chair and pursed her lip. The captain looked over at Kuroo who gestured to Ariake. Yua gave the blonde and her minions a death stare as the door opened. Vice Principal Sato said, "Okay, this is how we will proceed. I will call you in a non specific order. I would like to hear everything and then we will make a verdict. Miss Ariake, Katsu and Sanaka you will go first. I want nothing but the truth and if I find you are lying, you will face the consequences."
He walked into his office as Ariake got out of her seat. She gave me a smug grin, "You'll be expelled if I have anything to say about it."
They entered the office and I looked at my friends apologetically, "Gomen."
"Why are you saying sorry?" Etsuko snapped at me, "Those airheads deserve the worst. If we weren't stopped by Sato, I would've done much worse."
I looked at the middle blocker who crossed her arms, "I may not like you at times for joining the team late when you could have helped us last year, but you are our team mate and we couldn't be as good as we have been without you there. I guess you can even call us friends. It sickens me to see them spread lies."
"Etsuko..." I said speechless.
She grinned, "I can't wait to see them expelled."
"Miss Etsuko," Sato's voice called as Ariake and her cronies took their seats again.
"He already believes my story and mine alone," Ariake sneered, "Good luck making the old man believe otherwise."
After Etsuko went, Naomi did. My leg was twitching nervously and Kuroo looked at me, "Everything will be okay."
Kenma nodded his head, "She won't win."
"Thanks guys," I said, "I just want today to be over."
The pain in my body had subsided a little, but my face was still beaten up. Kuroo whispered, "Even beaten up, you are still the most beautiful girl I've ever seen."
My cheeks became redder and the vice principal called in the boy's volleyball team. Kuroo gave my hand a squeeze before he went in. Finally, I was called in. Before I entered the room, Kenma spoke in a serious tone before Kuroo could, "Tell him everything."
I knew what Kenma had meant. Only him, Kuroo and Naomi knew how those girls treated me my first year.
I closed the door to see Vice Prinicpal Sato gesturing to the chair, "Please take a seat, Miss Ayame."
I did so and placed my hands in my lap. The vice principal looked at me and rested his chin on his entwined figures to get a better look at me.
"Everyone has told me their side of the story except you. Based on your records, you are an academically, hard working student not prone to violence so I am surprised to see you in a fight."
