Chapter 3: A Glimpse

Flashback

The very first time Ayanokouji Kiyotaka killed someone was when he was 7 years old.

The White Room thought it best to not have them kill in the White Room itself, as that would be impractical, but instead to put them directly in the crossfire of war, having already trained them with guns, at least the ones they can physically handle, and taught them how to aim sniper rifles.

Alongside the other 32 remaining students of the Demonic 4th Generation plus an additional 12 US Marines, Kiyotaka was deployed to Afghanistan. The Marines were told nothing about the kids other than the fact that they must be protected and that they are extremely dangerous assassins.

The risk of these children, mainly the masterpiece, escaping and telling someone about the White Room is improbable despite their abilities because they would have absolutely no where to go in the middle of a 4th world war-torn nation.

Of course, this story caught a lot of attention and subsequently much heat thrown towards the Japanese government, who was unaware of the White Room's existence, but it was because of this event that caused two major outcomes:

1. The Japanese government began looking for facilities in Japan that are conducting human trafficking of children. Usually, they busted only Yakuza joints, but never once did they come close to discovering the one they're looking for, at least not until very recently.

2. Ayanokouji Kiyotaka would lose his humanity and think of others as nothing but stepping stones.

And the reason isn't the fact that he killed someone. It's that another one of the children was left to die by none other than Kiyotaka himself.

The kid he left was a bully that Professor Ayanokouji put in the White Room just to see how the other subjects would handle dealing with the bully in different situations. His name was Haizaki Katsuma.

The US government helped cover up the whole ordeal.

Their mission was to assassinate a General of the Taliban.

The US government was already involved with the White Room by this time since that man introduced the idea to certain American politicians. Thus, the Marines with these children were ordered to simply guard the rear as the kids go through with an assassination.

Children on the frontlines, and directly fighting in combat. It was an idea that the American men and women guarding the children did not even have the time to process, so they shut down any conscious moral objections and simply obeyed orders. After all, they had no other choice. They too are just pawns in someone else's sick, twisted game.

A good soldier is one that thinks of his enemies as not human and hates them with every fiber of his being. Only then is it easier to take another person's life.

The other 32 children are all armed with an M9 Beretta USMC standard issue pistols.

Kiyotaka pushed the bolt-action slide on his Barrett M82 sniper upwards and pulled it back, making the .50 Browning Machine Gun caliber 12.7x99mm round slide up into the loader. He pushed it forward and down, making the bullet move into the chamber, ready to fire.

Currently, he is placed on top of a small mountain of roughly 10,000 feet in altitude overlooking a village below, one swarming with Talis. After a few seconds, his spotter, the girl next to him, using her binoculars, found their target matched with the picture given to them.
