Volume 2 - "The Whistleblower"

Chapter 8 Part 4 of 5: Finals

The date is July 1st.

Students of Class B gathered outside the classroom to stare at a bulletin board that shows the results of the overall average scores of each class.

Midterms:

Class A - 65% class average, 0 expulsions from failure

Class B - 76% class average, 0 expulsions from failure

Class C - 75% class average, 0 expulsions from failure

Class D - 50% class average, 0 expulsions from failure

As soon as class started, Sakagami-sensei put the new ranks onto the board.

July 1st Class Rankings after expulsions and midterms:

Class A - 980 CP + 65 CP (midterms) + 4 CP (extra credit) -30 points for behavior= +39 CP= 1,019

Class B - 665 CP + 76 CP (midterms) + 6 CP (extra credit) -35 points for behavior= +47 CP= 712 CP

Class C - 517 CP + 75 CP (midterms) + 2 CP (extra credit) - 60 points for behavior= +12 CP= 529 CP

Class D - 0 CP + 50 CP (midterms) + 2 CP (extra credit) -2,475 points for behavior= 0 CP

"Now then... There are some things I have not explained, such as how your class points change on tests. The math for this is quite simple: the school adds class points by the same number as the class average.

The extra credit is rewarded by 1 class point per every person in here who has done a phenomenal job leading in a certain area. For June, those six people are the tutors that are helping you all study.

Additionally, the school decides to deduct points by -5 for every event of negative behavior, and the number depends on the severity of poor behavior. For example, if any of you get into a fight, each time you hit someone is -5 points.

Class points are finalized by 11:59 PM on the last day of the previous month, June 30th."

The equation is written on the board as 1 ÷ 39 students= # x whole number of class average without percentage= # of # of people in class= Points awarded.

The math for the midterms is shown:
76 class average= +76 Class Points Rewarded.
-35 points deducted from behavior.

Something caught Horikita's eye, so she raised her hand.

"What is it, Horikita?"

"Sensei, I know Class D is full of troublemakers, but it is unusual for Class D to have that many points deducted from behavior. Why is that? There's no way that they have that huge a number of offenses, right?"

'And to think nii-sama wanted me placed in that class... What would I learn there, especially without Kiyotaka to guide me?'

"You are correct, Horikita. I heard from Chabashira-sensei that many of their students were suspended for getting in fights over disputes. That reminds me that I need to tell you guys something else. Suspensions are punishable by even more class points than expulsions, specifically -250 class points."
