"You have to cancel, again?" I whined as I followed Damon through the house like a lost puppy. This was the third time he's canceled our plans. Wednesdays was one of the days our schedule aligned, the weekend and Mondays also. Well, when my schedule aligned. Damon was his own boss, so he could take off work whenever he wanted. He had an assistant that always filled in for him, like a second in command.
As for me, Wednesdays I got off extra early because it's always slow on Wednesdays. The weekends were my days off and Monday, I go in late because Antonio usually always visits his mother during the weekends and doesn't get back in town until later. Sometimes he even gives me Mondays off because he decides not to come in.
It was Saturday. Although I had Sunday off, I wanted Damon and I to go out Saturday because I promised Emory I'd go out with her tomorrow.
He also promised to take me to my favorite restaurant today.
"Yes babe," he said as if he was tired of me asking.
I frowned as I watched him throw his jacket on, turning to me. "August called in sick, so he can't fill in for me. My assistant doesn't have an assistant, so I have to go." He explained.
Seems like he's always calling in sick. "August always calls in sick," I mumbled.
"And I have a meeting with a model of mines and a company that's interested in her, I can't miss it," he finished.
I just nodded, defeated. There was no way I was talking him out of it and it was his job.
He walked closer and lifted my chin up, pecking my lips. "I'll see you later. If I'm not back too late, we can still go to the movies. I promise I'll take you to that restaurant tomorrow." He wrapped an arm around my waist, bringing me in for a hug.
I wrapped my arms around his torso, holding my wrist as I returned his embrace.
He let go and within seconds I was alone in the house, again.
I let out a sigh and went upstairs to our bedroom. I slipped on a pair of my grey sweatpants because I got cold. The AC was up high and all I had on was a tee a little too small and some panties, I put on a pair of socks also.
I could go see Emory. Beside the basketball game last week, we haven't spent that much time together lately.
I called her and she didn't pick up, but I forgot she had work. She's my best friend, I'm aware of her schedule and her job certainly doesn't give her days off on the weekends, but on Mondays and Fridays.
I called Eddie and was relieved that he immediately picked up. "Eddie!" I said excitedly. Talking to him made me happy, he's my best friend and was always fun to hang around. "Pretty please can you come over and binge that stupid show you forced me to watch? I'll admit I kinda like it.." I trailed off. "Damon bailed on me..again, you know how I feel about being alone for too long," I mumbled into the phone, my attitude returning to disappointment.
"Now how come I don't get calls like this?" I heard his hoarse voice speak into the phone, immediately making me smile widely and my heart rate quicken.
The smile dropped after realizing I just said all of that to him instead of Eddie.
"Cuz-I don't know.. you're not Eddie. Where's Eddie? Why are you answering his phone?" I said.
"He left with Tessa and forgot his phone," he said.
"Oh," I answered. There was a silence for probably thirty seconds but it felt like an hour.
