I made it to class 5 minutes late. I was panting when I got to the door as I realised my version of close and the office lady's version differed slightly. As the door swung open announcing my arrival, everyone turned towards me. I was overwhelmed with embarrassment and became stuck to my spot, panting heavily, but glancing at the teacher so that he could acknowledge my presence. If I could die right now, I would have, at my own will.
"Well Katherine, thank you for finally joining us for class. I hope that this doesn't become a regular occurrence for you." I could hear some of the kids snickering in the class but I avoided looking around, just dropping my head, my cheeks growing redder, before apologising to the teacher.
"Okay, no need for introductions, just go and find a seat." The teacher waved me off before looking down at his papers and going back to his work.
The only seat available was one in the middle towards the back, so I proceeded towards it, my eyes still cast toward the floor, trying to calm my breathing and the redness in my face. What I did notice though upon taking my seat, was the severe staring problem that the two gentleman on either side of my seat had. I ignored them both and cast my attention to the front of the room, taking out my laptop as I did so.
I placed my book bag on the floor, but not before grabbing out a small pen and notepad, doodling normally being something I did when I got bored.
"Pssst."
I tried to ignore the noise as best I could, but it made me want to rip my ear off and smack the offender with it.
"Psst."
"Yes?" I tried my best to address him in a kind manner, but still trying to take down the notes that were on the bored, my nails clicking lightly against the keyboard.
"I'm Logan."
"Nice to meet you, I'm Katherine."
"Katherine, is there a problem?" The teacher was glaring daggers at me when I turned to face him, I instantly stuck my head down.
"No, sorry." I heard him huff in annoyance and continue with the lesson.
Both of the guys started to snicker, which annoyed me. Not only did I embarrass myself in front of the whole class, but now I've been called on to shut up as well.
"What class do you have next?" It was Logan again.
"I'm not actually sure, I couldn't check whilst running towards this one" I was trying to push down the frustraion looming, trying to avoid another altercation with the teacher.
He nodded and continued to do nothing on his now opened laptop. The rest of the class had gone without a hitch until 5 minute before the class was supposed to finish and I noticed Logan trying to reach for my book bag.
"Excuse me, Logan, I don't appreciate you trying to grab my things."
"Right, sorry." He went slightly flush and shook his head, turning towards his laptop again.
The bell rang and I closed my laptop, putting my notepad and pen on top of it and grabbing my book bag.
"So what class do you have?" Logan hadn't moved from his chair like the other students, but instead stayed put and turned himself toward me, whilst putting his laptop in his bag.
I grabbed my schedule out of my bag. "I have gym next." I tried my best to hide my disgust.
He chuckled lightly, obviously noticing my distaste "We have gym together." I smiled towards him
"Great." The sarcasm was thick on my tongue. I had brought my gym clothes as a precaution, praying that I didn't even have gym today, but unfortunately, I was cursed.I hung back as the majority of the class was still trying to escape, 3 people trying to fit through the door at once and slowly sauntered toward it, Logan not far behind. It was only a minute or so before we were able to leave, but I used that time to study the map I had been given. Not paying attention, I turned the corner and ran in to something hard.
"Fuck, I'm sorry" I tried to catch myself, but I didn't have to do much of the work myself, as Logan caught my arm.
"You never use that language at home." I looked up in surprise to Xavier standing in front of me scolding me. I pulled my arm to myself, shooting Logan a thankful, but warning look.
"You also don't stand in my way and let me run in to you." He chuckled before glancing over at Logan questioningly.
"Don't worry, you'll be fine."
"What are you doing here anyway?" As far as I was concerned, he was meant to be at work, packing things.
"I just had some of that pack business to take care of, I'll see you at home okay?" I nodded as that had answered my own question, but he shot another look at Logan and walked off.
"Thank you for helping me Logan, but I'm sorry about that, that was my brother, he is the very overprotective big brother type"
"And so he should be." Our eyes connected and whilst mine showed confusion and uneasiness at his choice of words, his showed nothing, but the strain around his eyes told me that it was a forced nonchalance.
"Come on, we don't have long to get to class, follow me." He turned around and walked off. Still feeling uneasy, I trailed slowly behind him.
