Getting ready for school was always a drag. I detested school. I detested the grading system, the rude teachers and those kids who always pretended to be better than everyone, there's always a couple.

I slowly made my way to my shower, my hands becoming accustomed to wiping the sleepiness from my eyes every 5 minutes, with no success of course. Turning on the shower, hot water first, I sighed. I was not prepared for today, like every other day. I turned the cold water on slightly, preferring the hotter temperatures the shower could give me, I begrudgingly reached for my body wash and my loofa, enjoying the soft vanilla scent that it exuded. Once I was done washing and rinsing off, not bothering washing my hair, dry shampoo would be fine, I stepped out of the shower. I began to choke on the steam that had arose around my bathroom, kicking myself for not turning on my bathroom fan before jumping in the shower.

I had just recently moved from Florida to Washington, a whopping 45 hour drive, leaving me with only my two brothers to consider 'friends' for the moment. I wasn't great at making friends really, I preferred to stay at home and read, maybe go on the odd hike, but that was about it. Being social was something I never grasped. I figured that I should try and make myself look presentable though, in case maybe somebody was unfortunate enough to be graced with my presence.

"Mom! Do you know where my black dress is?"

"Katherine, you'll need to narrow it down, everything you own is black." I cursed under my breathe as I knew she was right. I had at least 20 black dresses.

"It has the lace and stuff on it, you know the one."

"The one you wear everyday? It's hanging on your desk chair, Julie put it there earlier."

I rubbed my eyes once more before turning towards my desk chair, it hung awkwardly on a hook behind it, but there none the less. I slipped it on casually, not putting any effort and letting it fall where it may, I was about a -1 on a scale of 10 for care factor at this point. I made my way towards my mirror, I knew I should have put makeup on, but I also had less than 0 care factor for makeup at the moment, apart from some mascara and some brow gel to tame the beasts that I called eyebrows. I would have filled them in, as they were naturally blonde, but I had grown accustomed to getting them dyed a few shades darker, so on days like this, there was no worry. I then left my blonde hair to fall where it may.

I was slightly annoyed though, I was practically finished with senior year and my parents wanted to move. Not that I had any quarrel with doing my end of year exams elsewhere, but having no friends when I graduated was going to be depressing. It's really great when only your parents and brothers are cheering for you at your graduation ceremony. I sighed at the thought.

I walked towards my book bag, just double checking its contents for the 50th time to make sure that I had everything I needed, including gym apparel which made me shudder. I was never a fan of gym class, but it was my last class ever, so it had made it that tiny bit more bearable. I double checked the zipped area again, making sure my laptop was securely in place before closing the top and making my way towards my closet. I pulled out my trusty pair of black boots and struggled slightly to slip them on.

I gave myself a once over. If I gave a shit, I would put in more effort. Mom always said that as a female I should put in more effort, and everytime I laughed her off. Every single time.

I grabbed my book bag, attaching the straps to the other side of the bag to stop it from opening, before leaving my room as quickly as possible to avoid the chance of jumping back in to bed and pretending that this was all a horrid dream.
