July 17th, 1562

When we arrived at the cathedral we took a seat in the designated seats and followed the ceremony. Mary looked absolutely beautiful, in her white dress and beautiful jewelry she was the center of attention. No one noticed how miserable Francis looked.

When the ceremony was over we went to the chateau where there was dinner and dancing. The king kept a close eye on me and when it was time to consummate the marriage he motioned for me to follow them.

There was a small group consisting of the queen, the king, a few of Mary's ladies-in-waiting and an aunt by marriage of Mary.

The women followed Mary to her rooms while the men followed Francis.

As a friend of Mary, I helped her along with her aunt and ladies-in-waiting to stretch her clothes and help her to bed. I prayed with her and her ladies-in-waiting and then waited with them for Francis to arrive.

When Francis entered the room and lay down next to Mary in bed, there was one more prayer. Then the curtains around the bed were closed.

I wanted to turn away from the scene but the king came and stood next to me and grabbed my arm in a painful way. "Look" he hissed in my ear.

I felt a tear slide down my cheek and quickly wiped it away as I looked at the bed. I praised heaven that the curtain covered almost everything and that I could only hear their panting.

When the king was satisfied he motioned for everyone to leave the room and I immediately went to the courtyard where a coach with my things was already waiting.

"Bianca wait!" A voice shouted from behind me. I turned and saw Maximilian running outside.

He pressed a package in my arms "a few books and some food for your trip" he said, panting.

I smiled touchedly "thank you Max, I don't know what I would do without you", "You will be very boring"

I giggled and wanted to get into the carriage but changed my mind. I walked up to Max again and hugged him "I will miss you so much Max, I love you, you've been like a brother to me these past few years. You were my best friend, the person I knew best" I said sobbing.

Max hugged me even tighter "sshh everything will be fine. This won't last forever so be Bia. Just for a little while" he let go of me "Be happy, Be free, then I will be too"

I nodded and got into the carriage. Max motioned for the rider to ride and we rode away from the chateau.

On my way to my new life.

if you don't want to read the chapters about her exile in Italy I suggest you skip to chapter 26, but I recommend that you read it.
