June 28th,1566.
"You called for me."
"Yes, the time to strike is now. Be prepared."
Pov Bianca.
I walked to Francis's study. He had called me to join him.
The guards opened the door for me and I walked in. "My love? You called for me."
Francis sat behind the table with a letter in his hands. "It's official now, Louis is my heir." He cried happily, he came to me and kissed me happily.
I tried to smile "Congratulations." I said doubtfully. Francis didn't seem to notice.
"We will celebrate today. We will celebrate that France has an heir." He walked into the hallway, leaving me in the room.
~
That evening I sat in a dark purple dress next to Francis's throne waiting for his entrance. Mary sat on the other side of the empty throne on her own throne.
She'd already had two cups of wine so far and didn't seem to want to stop tonight. She'd been acting weird ever since Margaret was born, like she was going crazy, but nobody seemed to care.
"This must be a happy day for you." Mary said sarcastically. I smiled politely "It's not." I said dryly back.
She rolled her eyes "how can you not be happy. Your son takes my daughter's birthright from her and you're not happy? Do not make me laugh." She took another sip of wine.
I looked at her briefly but decided to ignore her. I had to keep calm because of my pregnancy.
I still had three months to go and then I would finally give birth to the child. Three terribly long months.
The doors opened "His Majesty the King and Louis, Legitimate of France." cried the lackey. I got up from the chair and watched as Francis walked in with Louis by his hand. When he arrived at the podium on which the throne was situated, he politely kissed Mary on the cheek and kissed me on the lips.
He turned to the guests "Today we are gathered here to celebrate our heir to the throne. From today you do not have to fear that the French crown will fall under the hands of the bourbons, my son Louis Valois brings you that certainty. The Valois will continue to rule France for years!" He looked at me briefly and I forced a smile.
"Louis is given the title of Duke of Orleans, the title that every son who is not a Dauphin receives according to tradition. God bless Louis, Legitimate of France and Duke of Orleans!" he shouted across the hall.
"God bless Louis." was shouted from the hall.
Francis sat down on the throne and took Louis on his lap. I also took my seat again. He took my hand.
"Be happy Bianca. Our son will become something great." He tried to reassure me. I withdrew my hand. "I would rather have seen him with the title duke only than with the title future king." I whispered softly. "Let's hope your wife has another child, a boy."
I saw that Louis's eyes were tired and I lifted him from Francis's arms. "I'll put him to bed." I said, still irritated.
He nodded, "Come back later."
I nodded and walked with Louis to the nursery where I watched his nannies undress him and put on his nightgown.
I sat on the edge of his bed until he fell asleep and then sat for a while. I could get away from the hustle and bustle of the court here for a while.
After half an hour I returned to the party.
Mary seemed to have already withdrawn as I saw that Francis was now alone on the platform.
When I returned to the seat next to him he tried to grab my hand again but I pulled it away and put both hands in my lap."
Cecily and Maximilian came over to us and Cecily immediately sat down next to me.
"You look angry." She whispered, Francis and Maximilian were deep in conversation. "Yes I am. I've told Francis several times that I didn't want Louis to be his heir. He doesn't seem to understand how many people he makes angry with this." I whispered back in frustration.
"You won't have to stress so much, you are now pregnant and the health of the baby is of all importance." She smiled "Your belly is growing nicely big. Looks like you're carrying a boy again."
"God no, I can't handle another one, especially not now with the birth of Margaret. The tension between me and Mary will then be even greater than it already is." I put my hand over my stomach protectively.
Cecily put her hand over it. "Ah, who cares. You are now the mother of the future king, you are arguably one of the most powerful women in France right now. Enjoy it for a while because you never know how long it will be before she is pregnant again."
A maid suddenly ran across the room and came to the podium. she nearly fell through her legs "Your Majesty, Your Majesty!" she exclaimed breathlessly.
"Yes what is it?" Francis asked uninterested. He continued to talk to Maximilian.
"It's the nursery. Suddenly a loud scream came from the room and, and." she tripped over her words.
She didn't have to say more. Francis immediately rose from his throne and ran with Maximilian to the nursery. I also got up and ran after them with difficulty.
Once there, the door was wide open and I saw a large pool of blood spreading across the floor.
I felt myself sink through my legs.
"No no!"
What would have happened?
