That morning, Boyfriend and Girlfriend learned a thunderstorm was to be expected later that night while watching the news. At 9:00, Boyfriend left work, but had to run home while holding his suitcase over his head because he didn't bring an umbrella.
A couple hours after Boyfriend had gotten home and they had dinner, it got dark out, but it was still raining. As a matter of fact, the rain got worse. Boyfriend and Girlfriend were sitting on the couch watching TV, ignoring the loud thunder outside. That was when out of nowhere, every light, TV, and functioning electricity in the apartment went off. It was completely dark.
"What happened? Is this some kind of spell?" Girlfriend asked, panicking.
"No. I think our power went out because of the storm." Boyfriend answered.
"Oh." Girlfriend replied. They sat in the pitch black living room in silence. "Boyfriend? Are you still there?" Girlfriend asked after a while, panicking again.
"Yes. I haven't left." He said.
"Oh, okay." Girlfriend replied. Another few minutes passed by. "Boyfriend?" Girlfriend asked again.
"Still here." He said. "Is something wrong?" He asked.
"Me and some of my friends got into a fight with demons from a different faction long ago. Suddenly, everything went dark. When the light came back, everyone on my side was knocked out." She explained. "It was the work of one of the demons we were fighting against."
"I see." Boyfriend said. "Well, you've got nothing to worry about. How about I get my phone and we finish the show we were watching?" He asked.
"I would like that." Girlfriend said. Boyfriend nodded and got up to look for his phone. He felt around the kitchen table, which he was sure he left it on, and grabbed it. They continued to watch their soap opera until Boyfriend got a pop up saying his battery was now at 10 percent.
"Well... Outlets won't work. And we don't know how long this will last, so I guess I'd better power it off for now." Boyfriend said.
"Okay. But, it's still early." Girlfriend said.
"Do you want to tell scary stories?" Boyfriend asked.
"Sure! I'll go first." Girlfriend said. She then told Boyfriend the story that her mother would always tell her as a child. It was of a lonely demon who's entire bloodline was wiped out. Girlfriend told Boyfriend everything from when the demon watched their entire family die to when they were hellbent on revenge.
"That's... Actually really dark." Boyfriend said.
"Isn't it? That's why it's my favorite story!" Girlfriend replied. Boyfriend awkwardly chuckled as he thought of how innocent the story he was about to tell was compared to Girlfriend's. They just spent the night talking to each other after that. One hour later, Girlfriend and Boyfriend finally fell asleep on the couch. Around 3:00 AM, Girlfriend woke up. It wasn't thundering outside anymore. She slowly got up and flicked on the living room light to see if they were working again. They were. She then turned it back off, picked Boyfriend up and carried him to his bed. She laid beside him and fell asleep again.
