Chris Redfield was used to being alone.

He lost his parents at a young age, his sister his only company for many years. High school and the military were no different, his strong opinions and brutish nature setting him apart from others, most of the time not in a good way. He clashed with superiors, even teammates because of his convictions.

Chris thought he was meant to be alone.

   He deserved to be.

   His feelings didn't matter.

Why would they if this was how he was meant to be?

A few good friends now, sure.

   But alone even still.

Rebecca sat in the chair that had just held Chris a moment ago, watching over Richard. She felt hot, like her face and heart were on fire. Her hands trembled, too.

What was she doing, talking to Chris like that?

   Taking charge like that.

Touching his knee like that, dear god.

What was he doing, putting his hand over hers, acting like it was nothing?

   Was he really that oblivious?

She was so obviously flustered, and yet he smiled and left without a trace.

Should you really be thinking about this right now Rebecca?

She grabbed Richard's hand and watched as he slept, trying to think of anything other than Chris Redfield.

Richard's breathing was more even, and when Rebecca felt his forehead he was already a lot cooler. So the antidote was working, and Richard would be okay for the time being. As long as she made sure his arm didn't get infected. Rebecca was calmed at this thought. They would get out of here together.

And then her mind drifted back to Chris. Was he okay? Should she have gone with him? Probably not after that ordeal. She looked at Richard again, he would've loved to hear her freak out about this. She leaned her other arm against her knee and let her head swirl around some more...

Chris limped out of the medical supply storage room with his head a little fuzzy. Zombies, and Rebecca, and losing his teammates? Who wouldn't have their head full and confused. Chris paused as he let the door shut behind him, nearly tripping over the corpse on the floor in front of him.

   Hm.

   Rebecca.

Rebecca? As one of the things making his head fuzzy?

He was amazed at how she was handling herself despite the situation they were in, and her being a rookie. She healed Richard, and him, and probably all of Bravo after that crash.

Like she was some kind of... superhero or something.

He was beginning to realize that she really was something else.

Chris was confused by that thought he had just conjured up in his head.

"Keep moving." He muttered to himself, stepping over the body again and going back up the stairs.

***

Chris had noticed that the zombies in this place didn't like to stay dead once you put them down once. What he hadn't noticed was that after a while the dead ones turned into terrifying red super zombies (this was the only way Chris could describe them as one came running full speed toward him, arms pointed out in his direction). He whipped his gun out with just as much speed and shot it in the forehead, ducking under its arm as it staggered from the blow.
