The night after Chris visited her, Rebecca still woke up in the middle of the night with tears in her eyes. One conversation wasn't going to erase all of the horrors she had faced in those two days. Or the guilt. Chris even had to take her gun.
However, he had motivated her to get out of bed the next morning, get dressed, and go to work. She had to, anyway. She made a promise to Chris that she would help them track down Umbrella.
He even offered to pick her up from her apartment that morning. She smiled to herself as she put her shoes on, checking her watch afterward for the time.
He was late.
Rebecca wondered if that offer was to make her more motivated to get up, or because of the rather... intimate moment they had shared the night before. Rebecca wasn't exactly sure what Chris was like when he was interested in someone, but she hoped this was one of the things.
Rebecca looked at herself in the mirror, fixing her hair a bit. She still wasn't totally positive that Chris knew how he felt about her, and that was fine. He didn't know how to express it, that was fine too. Just knowing he felt something was enough for her to smile when she thought of him, and without the heavy feeling of uncertainty about those thoughts. It was also enough for her to be completely nervous about sitting in a car with him.
She apparently didn't have time to worry because soon she heard frantic honking from outside her apartment building. Right afterward she got an equally frantic phone call from Chris. She glanced out the window to see his car on the street. She was even able to peek into the front seat, where Chris was sitting, anxiously tapping the steering wheel while holding his phone to his ear.
Rebecca didn't feel guilty thinking he was cute anymore.
She ignored his call on purpose, and just collected her things, running out of the apartment building and out to his car. He poked his head out of the window and waved her over,
"You didn't answer! I was worried! Also get in! We're late!" Rebecca playfully rolled her eyes as she got in the car,
"Chris, who's fault is that?" Chris paused, before ignoring that comment completely, stepping on the gas a little too hard. He began to make his way to the RPD,
"That wasn't exactly the cool entrance I was going for." He said sheepishly, one hand resting on the steering wheel, the other on the space between the two seats. Rebecca smiled,
"Oh you're cool, Chris. Don't even worry about that." She slipped her hand in his and looked out the window, blushing of course. Chris nearly did a double take, glancing at their hands and then looking back at the road. He swallowed nervously,
"Right.." He couldn't help his heart beating a little faster when Rebecca gently rubbed the back of his hand with her thumb.

After Rebecca had informed Jill that they would in fact, be late, they could relax a bit. Rebecca internally rolled her eyes when Jill's voice had a suggestive tone to it,
"Ooooh so you're going together??" "Were you together last night~~??"
Rebecca wouldn't tell Chris about those comments.
He parked in the garage of the RPD and they both got out of his car, collecting their things as they did so. Once that task was completed they started walking through the parking garage to get inside. They didn't speak, but Rebecca's breath hitched when Chris casually laced his fingers with hers as they walked. Rebecca looked up at him with wide eyes, but he just kept looking ahead of him, his face tinted a slight red. It was like revenge for the one in the car. Rebecca smiled, squeezing his hand once and then leaving them intertwined.
"Chris! Rookie!" Rebecca squeaked and forcefully pulled her hand out of Chris'. She looked back and saw it was Marvin. Chris smiled at him, totally oblivious to the implications of the holding hands.
"Marvin, morning!" He said brightly. Marvin caught up to them and smiled back. He looked right at Rebecca,
"Haven't seen you here in a while. How are you doing?" Rebecca took a deep breath, still recovering from being caught. Apparently Marvin was just as oblivious as Chris,
"I'm better now. Okay." Marvin lightly patted her on the shoulder and continued to smile at her,
"Good. Welcome back." Rebecca thanked him and they soon parted ways. Once Marvin left they continued to walk, Chris shoving his hands in his pockets. Eventually they made it to the hall of the S.T.A.R.S. office. They stopped right outside of it. Chris looked at Rebecca,
"Hey Rebecca." He said, and Rebecca turned toward him, looking up at his face,
"What-?" She was cut off when Chris leaned down and pecked her lips with his. Rebecca's face turned bright red and she covered her mouth, frantically looking around,
"Chris! What if someone saw that?" Chris chuckled a bit,
"I'm known for being reckless right?" Rebecca noticed he was still bent over slightly so his face was met with hers. She pushed his face away embarrassedly and opened the door of the S.T.A.R.S. office. She quickly walked in, abandoning Chris in the hallway. He followed her with a satisfied grin on his face, his hands still shoved into his pockets.
Jill looked up from her computer to see smug Chris and embarrassed Rebecca come in. She immediately stood up and went over to Rebecca and smiled at her,
"Good to have you join us Rebecca."
"I convinced her," Chris said proudly, walking past Rebecca and sitting at his desk. Rebecca looked at him as if to say "yeah right",
"That's enough out of you. I chose this myself" She crossed her arms. Jill smiled a bit amused at the both of them. She could tell they had grown closer over just one night,
"Well I'm glad you did. We couldn't do it without you Rebecca" Chris pointed to the desk that was across from him, originally belonging to Forest, but was now empty,
"Rebecca! Sit across from me." Rebecca, still a little peeved about the kiss in the hallway, couldn't help but smile when he said that,
"Fine, fine." She took the seat next to Brad, who smiled kindly at her. Barry came out of the weapons depot when Jill started talking to all of them,
"Alright, now that we're all here, why don't we have our big bad leader Chris update us on the details" She took a seat and looked at Chris, who stood up excitedly after,
"Thank you, Jill!" He started debriefing Rebecca on the things they had found out about Umbrella so far, and what they were planning to do moving forward. Rebecca continued to smile, watching him look so determined and energetic about this work made her glad he was doing it, and that she was helping him.
Now that she was back in it, too, she felt an overwhelming hatred for Umbrella. She wanted to take them down just as badly as Chris did, and she wanted to do it by his side.
She always wanted to be by his side.
