Summer 1998
Still June, Still First Day on The Job
"We've learned that the repeated disappearances are definitely connected. It is not lost on us that these disappearances most likely ended in murder. Or at least death. And that they seem to be happening most frequently in the outskirts of the city.." Wesker reported out to the group. Luckily he had been merciful enough to give a brief overview of why they were out on a mission in the first place. S.T.A.R.S. had been asked to investigate just that, a series of disappearances that were reported one after another, and the victims were never found. Rebecca continued to listen with intrigue,
"Arklay Mountains, to be specific." Jill added. Wesker nodded in her direction,
"Precisely. After talking it over with the other Alpha members we have decided to hold off on sending a team to investigate." Rebecca heard someone scoff. She looked to the other members to see it had been Chris, leaning his elbow against his desk and giving Wesker an annoyed look.
"Do you have something to add, Redfield?" Wesker looked up from his report notes. He was still expressionless, but Rebecca could tell he was straining to remain even in tone. Rebecca glanced at Richard, who was biting his finger, watching with a nervous expression.
"I already told you everything I have to say." Wesker raised his eyebrows at him, as if waiting for something.
"...Something you'd like to share with the group-?"
"Why should we wait?" Chris blurted out. Some sighs from a couple Bravo members.
"Because, Mr. Redfield as I've explained time and time again we are underprepared, and we have a new recruit so if you could calmly keep your unwanted and unnecessary comments to yourself we won't have another issue." Rebecca leaned back in her chair, hoping to make herself seem smaller. This is exactly what she wanted to avoid with her arrival. Chris stood up. Jill glanced up at him with a look that had probably been given a thousand times,
"Chris, Wesker's right. We need to better prepare. I know it's terrible what's happening, but if we go in as we are God knows what will happen." Chris stayed silent.
"I agree with Jill." Brad said. Forest gave him a look.
"What?? Just saying." Brad put his hands up in surrender before crossing his arms. Barry turned in his seat and looked at Chris,
"We're talking about hundreds of potential murders, Chris." Chris still didn't speak, but sat back down. Wesker shut the folder he was holding,
"Seems your comrades all agree." He looked to Enrico,
"Make sure Bravo is whipped into shape. When S.T.A.R.S. investigates, perhaps in the next... Month or so. It will be in your hands." Enrico nodded,
"Yes..." Wesker looked at him expectedly,
"...Captain." Enrico added through gritted teeth. Wesker nodded, satisfied.
"Dismissed. Combat training after lunch." The rest of the members started talking to each other. Rebecca hadn't even realized they made it to lunch yet. Or got a break for that matter. And combat training?? Sounds intense. Not to mention she was a part of Bravo Team who needed to be whipped into shape before the next month! Rebecca suddenly felt very stressed.
Wesker rubbed his eyes under his sunglasses and went over to talk to Enrico. The two disappeared into Wesker's office and Rebecca looked to Richard,
"Is it always this tense?" Richard had chewed off a hangnail at this point, and shrugged his shoulders,
"Chris has always been argumentative, if that's what you're asking. To the captain, to the chief. He's got strong... What's the word? Convictions." There was a brief pause,
