Aiden

After that day with Harlow, I wanted to spend more time with her. I didn't care if nothing developed between us. There was something about Harlow that I enjoyed.

Each day we spent together, I documented it for parenting class while helping her with her art submission. To get the full effect, I took her to do things. Yeah, I'm a sneak.

Mom needed to go grocery shopping, so I offered to do the shopping. Dad stared at me like I was insane, then rolled his eyes when I asked him to fork over his credit card. Well, it's not like I have money.

I enlisted Harlow to help me. She questioned it. I explained it would help us with our parenting class. She agreed.

We took the car since we'll have bags. After entering the grocery store, I grabbed a cart and pushed it as Harlow kept track of the grocery list.

"Your mom is smart. She made a list."

"My mom forgets items. Dad reminds her."

"Do your parents shop together?"

"Every single time."

"That's sweet."

"Well, Dad tells Mom to buy whatever she needs. She worries about money."

"Why?"

"Why what?"

"Why doesn't your dad worry, but your mom does?"

"Well, Dad has money."

Harlow's brows raised.

"He invested money when he was younger and had a trust fund. But he doesn't care about money. After my grandparents passed away, he bought our house for Mom and me. Anything we needed, he made sure we got."

"Your dad seems like he cares about you and your mom."

"He does." I tossed spaghetti into the cart. "He wanted to make sure Mom and I stayed together since she was a teen mom."

"How did your mom handle raising you while going to school?"

"She sacrificed her social life for me." I shrugged.

Harlow placed can goods in the cart.

"Plus, kids at school gave her a hard time for getting pregnant."

"Yeah, but shit happens."

I stopped. Harlow looked at me. I didn't know what to say. Most people frown on teen moms and lecture them about being irresponsible.

"Your mom took responsibility for you while graduating high school. Most girls don't. I give her credit."

"Yeah."

"Plus, your dad owned up to his role. It takes two to tango."

"I guess so."

"Oh, there's no guessing. People criticize bad boys, but our fathers didn't abandon us."

"What do you mean?"

"When Mom was pregnant, they didn't know if my dad was my father. Dad was willing to raise me as his own."

"I didn't know that."

"Yeah, so I give our parents credit." Harlow shrugged.

We continued shopping.

"What would you do if you got pregnant?"

Harlow placed items in the cart. "I would raise the baby. I'm sure my parents would throw a party."
