Aiden

After what happened, I sat on my bed. Someone tapped on my bedroom door. I glanced to find Dad in the doorway. He strolled over and sat down next to me.

"You and I need to talk," Dad said, gesturing between us.

I blew air past my lips and crossed my arms.

"When you were little, you emulated me. It was cute, but you got into a lifestyle you couldn't handle."

I glanced at my dad.

"Aiden, I didn't rebel against my dad and became a bad boy because I experienced teen angst. I hated my dad and his lifestyle. Plus, I'm nuts."

I scoffed.

"But you have a better chance at life than I did."

"You do alright for yourself."

"Because I read and love working on bikes. College isn't for me or additional schooling." Dad reached into his back pocket, pulled out a form, and handed it to me.

I took it from him and looked at him.

"We all have choices. It's what you decide that chooses your path."

I glanced at Dad while holding the paper. He patted my shoulder and got up. I read over the paper and made a choice. Sometimes, we have a different path from our parents.

Mom and Dad spent countless hours talking to me about what happened. I assured them that I was okay. Shit happens.

Dad had to buy me a new phone since I dropped my phone when a schmuck kidnapped me. After getting a new phone, we stopped by Aiden's house. Dad strolled inside without knocking.

"Don't you knock?" Jag asked Dad from the couch.

"No."

Jag rolled his eyes.

"Where's your asshole, son? I have a bone to pick with him."

Jag rose from the couch. "Aiden isn't here."

"Where is he?"

"Not here."

"Jag!"

"Damien, you're not touching my boy. Because if you touch him, then I'll touch you, and we don't want that to happen."

Dad and Jag argued as I shook my head. After Dad and Jag finished bickering, Dad and I headed home. Dad pulled into the driveway and helped me off his bike.

"Are you okay?" Dad asked me.

We walked towards the house.

"Yeah," I said.

Dad gave me a concerned look. I haven't heard from Aiden since everything that happened. He knows where to find me.

I waited until school started, entered, and headed to the primary office. I rested my palms on the counter as the secretary glanced at me.

"Can I help you?" The secretary asked me.

"I need a form to drop out of school."

"Are you sure?"

"I don't belong here."

The secretary pulled out a piece of paper and handed it to me. Since I was eighteen, I didn't need my parent's permission to drop out. I filled out the form and handed it to the secretary. She gave me a small smile as I turned and left the office and school.
