Harlow

I focused on school, which kept my mind off Aiden. Meanwhile, Rebel and Diesel drove me nuts and wouldn't leave me alone.

"Don't you have someone else to bother?" I asked, grabbing a book from my locker.

"Who pissed in your Cheerios?" Diesel asked me.

I shook my head, closed my locker door, and walked away. My life got flipped upside down during the past few months. I didn't want to dwell on everything that happened but focus on the future without Aiden.

My phone rang, and I checked it to see the school calling. I answered it as Harlow's teacher spoke on the other end. After a few minutes, I hung up and left.

I arrived at the school, entered, and walked to the art room. Harlow's teacher was waiting for me.

"Mr. Moretti?"

"Yeah."

"I'm Mrs. Derring, Harlow's art teacher."

I shook the teacher's hand. "Is there a problem?"

"The opposite."

"Huh?" I arched my brow.

The teacher strolled over, grabbed a folder, and handed it to me. "This is Harlow's art submission. You should look at it."

I opened the envelope and removed the contents as my brows raised. I stepped back, sat on top of a desk, and stared at the sketch.

"I wasn't sure what Harlow would submit but was pleasantly surprised. So, was the committee at the art school."

I stared at the portrait of Harlow and me. She captured every detail of us.

"The submission was for an art student to capture the essence of a human perspective. Harlow's sketched impressed the committee, and they offered her a full scholarship to art college."

I looked at the teacher with my mouth agape. "Does Harlow know?"

"Not yet. I figured you would want to share the news with Harlow." The teacher smiled.

I nodded. "Thank you."

The teacher nodded, and I left the classroom with the envelope in hand. Harlow never told me what she decided with her art submission. I drove back to the shop and strolled into the garage.

"Where did you go?" Roc asked me.

"Harlow's art teacher called me."

Jag walked towards us, wiping off his hands. I handed the envelope to Roc. He pulled out the contents, and Jag looked at the sketch.

"Damn," Jag said.

"Your kid has talent," Roc said.

"It won her a full scholarship," I said.

Jag let out a low whistle.

"Does Harlow know?" Roc asked me.

"No. The teacher thought I should tell her."

"She's right. If anyone deserves to brighten Harlow's day, it's you."

I nodded and left. I couldn't wait to give Harlow the excellent news.

After school, I headed home to find Mom and Dad waiting for me. "What happened?"

"Your art teacher called me," Dad said.

I glanced at my parents and sighed. "The art school reject my submission."
