"Why do you have my computer?" Nina asked Jerome almost immediately after the portal closed.

"No reason," Jerome responded, shutting it slowly.

"You might as well leave it open. We need some research done about the 'Book of Thoth'."

Jerome opened he laptop back up as Alfie asked, "This thing?" Alfie stood up from sitting on the floor. "It talks about spells and things. It's really creepy."

"What kind of spells have you seen in it so far?" Eddie asked.

"I have no idea; I barely understand any of it," Alfie admitted.

while Jerome researched, Amber looked over his shoulder at the computer screen. Alfie plopped down on the couch, as did Nina. Eddie went over to sit by Patricia on the same couch William was sitting on.

"Did you miss me, Yacker?" Eddie asked her.

"We're adults Eddie. Are you seriously using silly nicknames still?"

"You can't deny how much of a Weasel I am."

Patricia made an expression of agreement. "I suppose I could agree with that-Weasel. Anyway, catch me up with what you and Nina did."

Eddie explained what happened in the most condensed way possible but still including all important information.

"Got it!" Jerome exclaimed before Patricia could say anything. "The Book of Thoth was written by the Egyptian god Thoth-obviously-god of knowledge and writing. It contains spells to understand and perceive animals as well as to understand and perceive the gods-I'm sure people want this book more for the gods-part. Um...Nef-Nefer-Neferkaptah stole the book from a chamber within the Nile after fighting off some serpents. Blah, blah, blah-Thoth got angry-blah, blah, blah-Thoth killed his wife and child and then Neferkaptah killed himself-blah, blah, blah-someone else found the book, but Neferkaptah's ghost warned him of the dangers and eventually the guy gave up the book."

"So, basically Thoth is going to kill our loved ones because we have his book," Alfie pouted. "Maybe we should throw it back through the portal."

"Thoth's not killing anyone," Amber assured. "Right Nina?"

"I won't let him," Nina stated.

"Neither will I," Eddie chimed-in.

"Are we going to use these spells?" William asked them all.

"It'd be best not to," Nina replied. "Unless we know exactly what we're doing. But no shame in at least reading it." Nina grabbed the book and turned back to the first page.

The book was in English, thankfully. While she and the person neighboring her, Alfie, sat and looked over some of the pages of the book, they read the important things out loud, but left the others to their own doings.

Jerome took that time to tell Eddie he was right about the song and that they sang it before it'd ever been invented.

"Told you so," Eddie bragged.

"We're famous now," Jerome said.

He typed in the song title in the search engine which pulled up information about how Eddie Sweet and Jerome Clarke invented the song performing at a 1936 Carnival in Liverpool, England.

"Still, it's a song no one knows or cares who the artists are," Eddie pointed out. "But it's probably a good thing since we're not from that time anyway."

"You two totally got ripped off," Patricia mocked. "No money, no recognition. Fame? More like being cheated."

"Cheated?" both Jerome and Eddie repeated.

"Patricia's right," Amber agreed.

"Whatever," Jerome moaned.

After a while, Nina closed the book and the others decided to go home. Jerome, Alfie, Eddie, and Patricia left the apartment, planning to return soon to continue the mystery.

"What is that book actually about?" William asked Nina before she went into her own room.

"Animals and gods, like what Jerome researched," Nina responded truthfully. "Just spells and tales of different animals and Egyptian gods. I can see why this book can't fall into the wrong hands."

"Are you ever going to use it?" Amber questioned.

"Hopefully we won't have to," Nina replied. "Power can be dangerous."

Amber agreed with that and went into her own room to get some sleep. Nina decided to do the same, but William mentioned her name.

"Yeah, William?" Nina asked, turning back towards him.

William had in mind what he was about to say but choked on his words, discovering he had an inability to say them. Instead, he just said, "Good night."

"Same to you," Nina smiled as she went into her room.
